Three Will Report For Basic Training Three young men from Decatur will leave this weekend for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. They will begin their six months obligation immediately following their departure from this city. The six months program is a portion of their obligation as reservists, with the U. S. Army reserve. The men are: Ted W. Hutker, 733 Cleveland street, Jerry L. 'Beard, route four, and Melvin E. Hanni, 416 Patterson street. All of the men are members of company “B”, of the 424th Field Artillery Battalion, Army Reserve, located at Fort Moses, north of the city. While at Fort Leonard Wood, they will receive basic combat training, and will complete their military obligations by serving with the Decatur Army Reserve unit, under the provisions of the reserve forces act of 1955, after their return. Legion Will Select Delegates Thursday Reports on Boys State were heard at the regular meeting of post 43, the American Legion Monday night. A letter of appreciation from the Rev. O. C. Busse, for’the floral wreath sent him at his church upon his retirement, was read to the post. James H. Staley, prominent Decatur Legion mender, is one of 21 candidates for delegate from the fourth district to the national American Legion convention. The election of delegates will be Thursday at 8 p.m. at Post 47 in Fort Wayne. All newly elected delegates are asked to attend, together with the alternates- -. Brush Fire Results In Department Call The Decatur fire department answered a call to the Citizens Telephone company lot on Adams street Monday at 5:05 p.m. No damage was reported as a result of the brush fire.

Three Adams Central Students At Institute Miss Shirley Osterman, Miss Doveanna Nussbaum, and Miss Delora Mishler, editorial staff members of the Adams Central school newspaper, the Greyhound Gazette, will leave Sunday to attend a two-week-long session of the annual high school journalism institute at Indiana University at Bloomington Editor, of the mimeographed weekly newspaper, Miss, Miss Osterman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Osterman, of route one, Monroe. Miss Nussbaum is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Nussbaum, of near Berne, and Miss Mishler is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. John Mishler, of route two. Miss Imogene Beihold is the staff’s adviser. Beginning June 29, the two-week session will end Friday, July 11, with an awards dinner. This session, for mimeographed and some printed and offset school newspapers, is the first of three scheduled at Indiana University for high school journalists. The next twoweek session will instruct staffs of printed newspapers, while the third two weeks is reserved for yearbooks.
