Friday is election day for wheat farmers in Adams county. A yes vote will assure them of prices at least 75% fair to themselves for the wheat they produce. A no vote will mean only 50% if they stay within quotas, and much less if they do not keep within quotas. A yes vote will help the Adams county economy. _—o o— When farmers look at their flooded fields, or fields with reduced yields thanks to high water, let them remember that President Eisenhower has twice vetoed omnibus rivers and harbors bills which would definitely help the local situation. Wc need a Democratic Congressional majority that can override these vetoes. Vote for W. Robert Fleming. —-o— —o Rep. Glenard P. Lipscomb of California has recently exposed a move by Eisenhower’s department of commerce which will permit an American firm to sell a British firm the engineering plans for the largest tire factory outside the United States, capable of producing 2 million tires a year. This British company already has a contract to build the factory—in Rusaia! At the same time, the Republican Commerce department forbids the export of Salk vaccine to the Sino-Soviet bloc. The defense department has condemned the decision as' contrary to the security interests of the United States, and stated that it will certainly contribute to Russia’s growing warmaking capabilities. Let’s return sanity to government by electing W. Robert Fleming to the U. S. House of Representatives.

Ever wonder why the people who live in section 17 of each township have no federal land grant among their ownership papers? This and many more interesting questions will be answered when county superintendent of schools Gail Grabill explains our county school history next Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Decatur library. The public is invited. o— —o— — Courtesy is contagious. So is discourtesy. A little effort is necessary, isn't it, to refrain from becoming angry when someone fails to dim his lights as he approaches? Or turns on the brights just as he passes on a dark, drizzly night? Or stops or turns without signaling? Every little discourtesy causes discomfort and leads to a discourtesy on the part of the offended driver. If each of us would try a little harder, perhaps courtesy rather than discourtesy will spread among drivers. oi—o—— Are you one of the many fishermen or sportsmen who do • not like to comply with the law. which requires you to wear a life jacket when in a motor-driven boat on an Indiana lake? Do you feel that it costs you too much to buy a life Consider the great cost, borne by your taxes, which results when it is necessary to dredge a lake for your body. Or for your son or daughter. Now the cost of a life preserver doesn’t seem quite so high, does it? Several members of the state conservation department spend their summers diving for the bodies of thoughtless boaters, most of them good swimmers, who “didn’t need to conform with the law—that’s for nonswimmers.”
