Stumps Are Removed From City Properly New Type Machine Is Used On Stumps Decatur’s city parks and property were improved this week as the stumps were ground up and destroyed by a new type machine. operated by Tom and Roxy Ruble of Union township. The new machine, pulled by a tractor, is lowered into position oVer a stump. A large, circular blade, resembling a saw blade but much thicker and with side cutting edges, is lowered into the ground by tne stump. This is then moved bacx and forth over the stump until the heart is completely ground up. A large pile of dirt and sawdust is left, which may be raked back over the hole. One stump was removed in the waterworks park, seven in the • • ■ ' ■ - ..
yard at the waterworks, and 11 in the Legion park on Winchester street. Three more were removed at the southward playground this morning. It takes only a few minutes to cut through the stumps. This is one of only three such machines known to be operating in Indiana, and the onljrone used commercially. The dities of Fort Wayne and Muncie have them, and use them to clear stumps on city property. The Ruble brothers have used theirs in Van Wert, Decatur, and nearby cities. It can also be used on farms or. yards. Baer Field Tour Is Held By Cub Scouts Cub Scout Pack 3061 recently made a tour of Baer field. Cub Master Maurice Teeple extended his thanks to Bob Gay for donating his bus and time for the trip and thanks was also extended to others who made the trip possible. A total of 56 attended the tour.
Central Soya Sales And Profits Higher New High Set For Nine-Month Period The third quarter report of Central Soya Company, Inc., and its feed division, McMillen Feed Mills, set a new high in shies and net profits for the nine-month fiscal period ending May 31. Increased production efficiencies, greater, ■product demand, and concurrent increase in sales volume were primary factors resulting in ninemonth net profits that were more than 18 per cent greater than the same fiscal period of the previous year. , . _ * Sales for the quarter were $59,702,074 as compared to $49,287,588 the previous year. Nine-month sales were $161,549,710 compared to $140,786,516 for 1957. After provision for taxes, net profit for the current quarter amounted to $1,584,993. or $1.43 per share, bringing the nine-month total to $3,616,391, or $3.26 per share. This compares with a net profit of $1,105,381, or $1 per share, for the quarter last year, and $3,060.356, or $2.76 per share, for the ninemonth period of 1957. Harold W. McMillen, chairman of the board, stated that many companies serving agriculture and its animal production segment have not been subjected to the adverse conditions affecting some of the other major industries in past months. It now appears that company dollar sales for the fiscal year 1958. as well as net profits per share, will substantially exceed those of recent years.
