Foresee Increase For Steel Prices Automatic Boost In Wages in July CLEVELAND, Ohio (UP)—Several top steelmen belive steel prices will go up as a result of automatic wage boosts due steel- : workers in July, Steel magazine said todayThe magazine said Charles M. White, board chairman of Republic Steel Corp., expects the price boost to be sll a ton “because that’s what the cost increase will be.” According to the magazine, R. H. The magazine predicted' the United Auto Workers union will sign contracts when the deadline is reached. Steel Output Rising Steel said the combined effect of improvement in steel output, electric power output, freight carloadings, and auto assemblies raised the index three points to a preliminary 125 for the week ended May 17. The index is based on a figure of 100 for 1947-49.

Sports Dads AMHERST, Mass. — (IB — A novel sports organization, composed of the fathers of the undergraduate athletes, is being formed at the University of Massachusetts to foster athletics. It will be known as the Sports Dad Association. The organization will award trophies to the top senior student-athlete in each varsity sport. It also will sponsor social functions for its members and their wives.

Hay In Pellets ITHACA, N. Y. — (W — Scientists have come up with the notion that feeding cattle bulky hay is “inefficient.” They say it would be easier tog ive the animals a pile of pellets. The pellets, hay type of course, were used in a six-month experiment with beef calves at Cornell University’s agriculture school. The calves that received mixed hay plus the alfalfa pellets gained more weight each day than those animals fed ordinary mixed hay alone.
