Magazine Salesmen Ordered To Leave High-Pressure Gang Sent From County Six magazine salesmen, two women and four men. operating in this area, were escorted out of the county Thursday with the help of the sheriff’s department.

It seems the salesmen have been using some very high-pressuring in selling the residents of this county, magazjge subscriptions. When the sheriff s department started to receive complaints, a check was made on the matter. Their investigation showed the salesmen were telling the people they were representing the "Dis- , abled American Veterans". When tiie sheriff checked their story, it • was proven to be false. Also, these salesmen told the sheriff they had recently worked in the Louisville area for awhile, and of late transferred to the Marion. Indiana area. Unfortunately the only thing | they could be charged with were j two traffic violations. The man j considered as the leader of the ! group, was charged with improp- ' er registration of his car (1957 j California license plates), and i parking on a traveled portion- of I the highway. The automobile was impounded by the sheriff’s deI partment. Sheriff Merle Affolder again j warned the people of Adams

Service Commission today agreed to hold a hearing on a protested order permitting all Hoosier telephone companies ex< cept Indiana Bell to raise their intrastate long distance toll rates. But the PSC said that the rate increase previously authorized beginning April 14 will remain in effect until and unless the hearing produced a~~clTange in the rate hike order. In its order for a hearing today, the commission affirmed the protest of a group of Lake County patrons of Illinois Bell Telephone Co. that the order issued last

r March was unlawful because it was issued without benefit of a hearing. ,i No specific hearing date was set. But the commission said: “The commission now under further, consideration is satisfied that sufficient grounds exists to warrant a formal hearing. •. in order to prevent improper or unlawful discrimination. - ’ However, the order said the earlier action was “a long and well established practice of the ■ commission.’’ i The t’SC granted Indiana Bell i an increase after a hearing. At lithe same time, the PSC issued a J second order giving similar in- * ’’Creases to all other phone firms. . ostensibly to save time on the f theory that nearly 100 other util- * ities would apply for such ini creases based on the Bell prece- ! dent. * , —- ■ No two zebra, even of the same ’ variety, are exactly alike in markr ings. Expresses Surprise At Hoover's Charge Television Code On Violence Defended HOLLYWOOD (UP) — Federal . Bureau of Investigation Director ! J. Edgar Hoover's verbal blast at i movie and TV “crime glorificai tion” has brought little “on the ; record ' comment from members of either media. However, one Hollywood pro- . ducer's reaction was to suggest I Hoover might “take a look in his own backyard.’’ f “Did you ever read Hoover’s , book, ’The FBI Story’’ Well, , there’s plenty of crime, violence • and blood there.
