New Haven Is Winner NEIC Track Crown New Haven's Bulldogs won the 1 Northeastern Indiana conference track championship in the annual I meet at Columbia City Wednesday afternoon, dethroning the Garrett Railroads as champs. Four meet records were broken 1 as New Haven scored in every • event to tally 70 points. Garrett ; was second with 60. Fort Wayne i Concordia was third with 25 points, Bluffton fourth with 19, Decatur and Kendallville tied with ; 18. and Columbia City finished ; last with 15. The Yellow Jackets' only first i place was the half-mile relay. I Larry Moses finished second in ' the 220-yard dash and third in the high hurdles, and John Hebble I was fifth in the s&ot put - for Dei catur's other point. One of the records broken was the mile relay, which New Haven won in 3:39.5, erasing the mark - set by Decatur in 1949. Steve Hibler„ Concordia, broke records in both the mile and 880yard runs. Hold Little League Tryouts Saturday At Worthman Field Tryouts for new candidates for the six Decatur Little League teams will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon at Worthman field. All boys in the eligible age group who did not play in the league last summer are urged to report at the field for the tryouts; Application blanks which were distributed in the schools should be filled out by parents and brought to the field Saturday. League officials emphasized that the tryouts are only for new candidates, and boys who played last year are asked not to report Saturday. | Commodores Are Defeated By Marion, 6-4 Marion Bennett edged the Decatur Commodores, 6-4, in a Central Indiana Catholic conference game Wednesday afternoon at Worthman. field in this city. Marion scored three runs in the first inning on two hits, a walk and an error, but the Commodores bounced back to tie the score with three in the bottom of the first on two errors, a hit batsman, and hits by Beal and Kable. Marion twk the lead with a single run in the third, but the Commodores again tied the count in the fifth on Beal's second hit and two errors.
