Caston Is Reelected By Lutheran Laymen Zone Spring Rally Held Sunday Night Earl Caston of Zion Lutheran churcjh, Decatur, was reelected president of the Decatur zone of the Lutheran laymen’s league Sunday night at the zone's spring rally held at Bethlehem Lutheran church near Ossian. Erwin Fuelling was renamed vice president. Earl Dressier and Herman Steele were also reelected as secretary and treasurer, respectively. The league reported another increase in membership over last year, with 1.320 members enrolled to date. A joint opening meeting was held with the L. W. M. L. The host pastor, the Rev. Harry Behning. cpnducted the opening devotions. The Rev. and Mrs. H. D. Smith, returned missionaries from India and now of Cincinnati, told of their work in the larger cities of India. Eugene Dettmer, Robert Shearer, and Herman Buuck were elected to the zone's athletic committee. The Rev. Otto Mueller is pastoral advisor and Melvin Reisenbechler will represent the teachers. Richard Franz, athletic committee chairman, reported that the basketball season just concluded had been a sue-' ccssful one and that a split sea-I son schedule of spring and fall' games is again planned for base-j

There are still some members who have not yet renewed in 1958. The league plans a seminar at St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Fuelling, Nov. 23, with the topic still to be chosen. Edger KrueckebePsjy Lutheran Hour chairman, reportdl| that the Rev. Armin C. Olsen will serve as summer speaker this year, while Dr. Hoffman travels in Europe. Krueckeberg urged increased participation in the sponsor plan. v The zone scholarship committee reported that there was increased interest again this year in the Valparaiso University scholarship tests. The congregations reporting their contributions to date indicate excellent support, and the others were urged to complete their solicitations as soon as possible. Miss Claudia Caston Is this year’s local winner. The 1958 district convention will be held at Elkhart September 6. Mrs. Ben Gerke conducted the business meeting for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary league. Report was heard of the recent guidance institute held by the league. She also reported that a bus has been chartered for the convention beginning June 11. Delegates and guests will board the Bus in Fort Wayne at 3 a.m.,| a stop will be made at St. John’s, I ’Bingen at 3:30, and at Decatur i at 4 a. m.

Smith, wife of missionary Smith, entertained the ladies group with an interesting talk and display of curios from India. 103-Year-Old Woman Dies At Gary Hospital GARY lift — Mrs. Gallie G. Rock, Ark., died Saturday in Gary Methodist Hospital. Survivors included 28 grandchildren. 34 greatgrandchildren, 9 great - greatgrandchildren and 3 great-great-great-grandchildren. The influence of home is all that keeps many people straight and respectable.
