One of the biggest activities coming up at DHS in the very near future is > the fine arts festival Friday] night. The high school choir, I

band, and art club will put on a program for the public beginning at 8 o’clock Friday evening. Miss Kauffman will have various art pieces on display starting at 7 o’clock. Everyone is invited to attend the program. —D.H.S.— “Are you in the market diamond ring?” “How about some insurance for you and your family?” These are just a few of the statements heard in speech class this week. The members of the class gave persuasive or selling talks to their fellow students. The talks proved to be very interesting as they ranged from baby shoes to kitchen utensils. —D.IJ.S.— The DHS baseball teahi dropped both games of a doubleheader to Marion last Saturday afternoon at' Worthman field. The score of the first game was 6-1, and 7-3 was the score of the second. The Jackets played the Kendallville Comets today at Worthman Field. —D.H.S.— The chemistry class took the American chemical.'society test for Northeastern Indiana last Friday. The three people with the highest scores were Dave Butcher, Emily Swearingen, and Dave Eichenauer. These three students will travel to Fort Wayne Friday to compete with other students of the area. —D.H.S.— The Decatur golf team was defeated Monday afternoon by Central Catholic. The score of the match was 14-2. DHS met Garrett at the Decatur golf course I yesterday. The students who went are Mike Affolder, Beery Ellis, Tom Cravens, Jerry Douglas, Eddie Morgan. Barbara Bleeke, Ann Lehrman, Loretta Wass, and Lois Gerke. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Chronister... —D.H.S — The Decatur track team won a 1 triangular meet at Bluffton Tuesday afternoon. The Jackets defeated Bluffton and Ossian. - D.H.S — Reed Stewart, of Brazil, won the national Legion oratorical contest on the constitution. The national finals were held at East New Mexico University, Portcales, New Mexico. Many of the students remember Reed from the State finals held at DHS last mnoth. —D.H.S — The speech class will have a dinner at the community center Monday night. Janalee Smith is general chairman of the dinner. Other chairman include Jane Stiverson, Barbara Kalver, Janice Voshell and Ken Eliasson, and Emily Swearingen. -D.H.S.— The juniors are being very quiet this week whenever they run into a senior. The reason is the juniorsenior prom. The juniors have chosen their theme for the prom and are trying to keep it a secret from the seniors . -D.H.S — The prom servers were posted last week. This year there will be nine couples instead of the usual eight. The 18 sophomores who were chosen are Jan Aumann, Jay De Voss, Dee Schoedef; Dave - Sheets, Alice Allwein. Joe Smith. Rosie Flora, Jack Dailey, Lois Gerke, Larry Sheets, Becky Maddox. Jim Gay, Linda Sexton, Mike Thieme, Barb Burk, Jim Reidenbach.
