After the Lord’s commission of Moses to deliver the Israelites, there followed a number of interviews between Moses and Pharaoh when Moses implored Pharaoh to let his people go and he met with persistent refusal. This lesson deals with the punishment dealt the Egyptians in a series of plagues and the final deliverance of the Isralites, showing how God sometimes expresses his will through catas-1 trophic events which become incentives to faith. V. 1. a And the Lord said unto .Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence; when he shall let you go, ‘hence alttogether,” There had already been nine plagues dealt upton the Egyptians because of Paraoh’s refusal to let the Israelites leave the country, The plagues served both to oppress the oppressor and to arouse, and. strengthen the faith of the Israelites in the one true. God V. 23. “For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come unto your houses to smite you."
