Spring athletics have started at both high schools and there will be baseball games and track meets to liven up the spring activities and take up the void made by the lack of football and basketball.. o o We’re all for a meeting of top leaders of the world if a suitable program can be worked out with indications of good results. We don’t believe there is a nation in the world which wants war and let’s get a meeting which can accomplish things. —o—o Everything is in” readiness in Adams county for the spring primary elections. Ballot printing will be finished by the last of the week and election officers will be named by the county organizations and polls will open at all 39 polling places at six o’clock central daylight time and will remain open unti six o'clock in the evening. o—o There were only four or five retail stores open Wednesday night which might mean that Wednesday has been eliminated as a night operating store hours until 9 o’clock. If this is the case, indications are that most retail stores, if not all of them will remain open until 9 o’clock on Friday and Saturday nights only. This is worth a try and any system which is worked out, to the satisfaction of a big majority, will be much better for the large shopping area and also for those who adhere to the new hours. Let’s give it a try. We always can change to some other nights if they prove more satisfactory.

Baseball which is only a week old hasn’t set a pattern yet as to which are the best teams to watch but in about a month we’ll get a general idea of who is the best in both leagues. o——o This is hardly news. The French government has quit. After five months as premier, J which is a long time for a French [ ruler, he was out-voted on the ( Tunisian question and forced to J resign. i -—o—o The President reluctantly ] signed the almost two billion dol- i lar highway law and in doing so* < he said he was afraid it would i set a precedent toward the fed- [ eral government spending too ( much for roads. Let’s meet that , problem when it arrives. The i main thing ndW is to get men to < work and- factories to humming again. o o i This has been wonderful base- i ball and track weather. High i school golfers also haver gotten < in a -lot of drill and it is about i the nicest spring from a weather i stadnpoint we have had in sev- i eral years. Let’s hope it contin- j ues. 0 ! Diplomats plan an early meet- [ ing with Russians and from this [ meeting it is hoped a summit ] meeting will result. At least it J is a start toward a semblance [ of peace and a move toward no ' war. It would be wonderful if the ’ world could get together on a [ peace movement and we could ] buckle down to other important [ matters, such as ending the al- ' most world wide depression.
