Actually we don’t think Russia is in any better condition financially for a war than we are. Let’s give them a try and we might save billions of dollars and many, many lives. o o—--Phil Moser, Adams Central student, has been honored by the Indiana FFA as a state officer. We are proud of the honor bestowed on this young man. It speaks well for the school and also those who helped him make a record of recognition. o o The March unemployment census was not as favorable as was expected and there are still millions jobless in the nation of ' plenty. We’re pretty much convinced that the President does not know how to cope with the many unemployment problems. He should very frankly admit his inabilities and ask for n~w help to get us otft of the slump, worst ' since Hoover. o—o The board of works has ordered repair of 207 parking meters. The Daily Democrat has been for this for several months and we are pleased to know that official action has been taken. We always have felt that the out of town people have had to carry more than their share of the parking burden because home towners could quickly ascertain which meters were not working and would take advantage of this. Anyway they all will be fixed real soon. o o More than one hundred ?“d thirty five million dollars will be spent, or rather we should say, has been allocated for Indiana road building this year. Our big job will be to get the money into the actual highway program now instead of Florida real estate and the big and welcomed pockets of politicians. Let’s hope that the spending will be under the careful eyes of federal authorities so Indiana can again take its place near the top with the best roads in the nation.

, -. ... J.- ... -■» ■ . .. .... — — The Adams county memorial hospital showed a $250 profit in March, records reveal. The present board and management works hard to give our people the best in hospital facilities at the lowest price and they accomplish this without fanfare. We’re proud of the hospital board and the present management. O 0 The Welcome Wagon, greeter of all newcomers to Decatur and congratulator of those having special events like twenty-first birthdays, engagements, fiftieth anniversaries and the like, has issued its thirtieth annual report and its fifth Indiana report. Mrs. Dan Tyndall is cnairman of the Decatur group and Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg is assistant. Seventy four Indiana clubs now have more than 6,000 members who aid in making your moving to Indiana a great occasion. The Welcome Wagon is active in this area and numerous parties are held through the year. Those who support the organization are high in their praise of the organization. The Dally Democrat has been a member of the Welcome Wagon since it started here several years ago. o o The General Electric Co., through its Decatur plant manager contributed $2,000 to the Adams county memorial hospital fund. The check was delivered to Cal E. Peterson, president of the board. The money will be used in the present building fund which is being used to remodel and enlarge the present building. General Electric always has been a fine supporter of civic enterprises here and while the check was hot a total surprise, it certainly was well received. We always have followed the same theory, that while it is wonderful to see Decatur grow, ' but' it’s also wonderful to know that the industries we have are well pleased with Decatur and they, always express it by liberal contributions to every worthy enterprise.
