Three Farm Groups Ask Common Action i Hoosier Groups Join For United Action INDIANAPOLIS llf) — Three powerful Hoosier farm groups agreed Monday to join forces to “improve the fast deteriorating farm economy." The Indiana Grange, Farmers Union and Milk Producers Federation said they will try to unify all Indiana farm organizations fdr common action. Eighteen officials of the three groups tentatively scheduled another meeting for July. This was the second meeting. The officials issued a joint statement calling for fixed pHce supports for farm products, farm quotas and a graduated net income tax instead of Indiana’s present gross income tax. The statement said: "1. This farm group feels that the veto of the 'price freeze bill’ will cost the Indiana farmers many millions of dollars, while the consuming public would not be benefited to any appreciable degree. “2. It is also the consensus of this group that the feed grain farmers of Indiana would be willing to accept a program of cross compliance and quotas which they recognize as being essential to a strong and effective farm price support program. "3. Farmers of this stste cannot continue to carry the burden of local taxes by use of an obsolete tax structure. It is our opinion that Indiana must have a devised tax structure which would collect from all citizens according to their ability to pay and distribute reve- , nue on a need basis. More specific- , ally we desire a graduated net in- ; come tax.” Macmillan To Visit Canada During June i LONDON HP) — Prime Minister Harold Macmillan will visit Can?da in June after his Washington it was announced Monday night. | It will be his first Canadian visit since he assumed office in January, 1957. Fair Weather Beams On Hoosiers Today More Rain, Cooler Weather Forecast By UNITED PRESS Fair weather beamed on Indiana today as an Easter weekend blustery spell vanished. But more rain and cooler temperatures are on the way. It was dear over most of Hoosierland this morning and the weatherman said it probably will stay that way until some time Wednesday, when increasing cloudiness will develop into rain by Thursday. When the rain ends, a two-day warming trend will reverse itself in cooler temperatures. The mercury crested in the 40s from Lake Michigan to the Ohio River Monday, highs ranging from 43 at South Bend to 49 at Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville. Sub-freezing readings were recorded generally over the state this morning, including 29 at Evansville, 30 at Lafayette, 31 at Indianapolis and South Bend, and 32 at Fort Wayne. Today’s highs will range in the 50s throughout the state, and after lows in the 30s tonight there will be a major warm-up to the 60s Wednesday. COLUMBIA (Continued rrom page one) the network to continue broadcasting and “every effort will be made to carry as much of the regular program schedule as is possible under the circumstances.” There were some hitches in programs during the early hours of the strike, with some programs and commercials appearing without sound or without picture for a few moments. One station, 1 KCBS, San Francisco, was off the air for five minutes at the beginning of the strike. Some affiliated stations relied on local programming instead of the network. The union said it hopes to hit the network “where it hurts, in the pocketbook” through cancellation of commercial programs. The technicians presently earn $92.50 to $175 a week.
