AFL-CIO President George Meany has denounced findings of the Rackets Committee as a "disgraceful, sensational smear’* on organized labor. Committee Chairman L. McClellan (D-Ark) and other members expressed surprise today at Meany's attack and defended their report as a “fair verdict.” “If the labor movement has been smeared in the course of these hearings, the smear came from those leaders in the labor movement whose corruption, rascality and impropr practices the committee has exposed, - ’ McClellan declared. McClellan said the committee will introduce a bill containing four of the five recommendations made in its controversial report. The report called for legislation to control employe health and welfare funds; to control handling of union dues; to promote union democracy; to* curb activity of labor - management “m idd lemen;” and to put boundaries in the “no-man’s-land” between state and federal labor regulation. The committee won powerful support for its proposals Tuesday night from Senate Republican Leader William F. Knowland (Calif.) who said the findings “make plain the need for a workers bill of rights.” City officials of Sheboygan, Wis., however, blamed the group’s current inquiry into the Kohler Co. strike for stoning of homes revived old hatreds in the city, in Sheboygan Tuesday. Youthful Gangster Is Dead Os Wounds 17-Year-Old Youth Dies Tuesday Night NEW YORK ((* — A 17-year-old gangster died Tuesday night of the bullet wonds he received 10 days ago in a death ride resulting from his bungled attempt to burn down a Boston dance hall. ’ ' Alexander Menditto had broken down in Coney Island Hospital as his life hung in the balance, confessed his part in the arson attempt and said he and his partner, Bartholomew Garofalo, 24. had been taken for a gang ride because they refused to return the SIOOO paid them for the fire that didn’t come off.
