DULLE (Continued from page one) •ummit conference. But the Soviet note flatly rejected any discussion of German Unification. The Soviet note was in reply to a March 6 U.S. note which demanded to know if the Soviets were interested in “meaningful decisions” at a Summit meeting or merely wanted an international “spectacle” that would provide them with new propaganda. The United States said in effect the next move in the lengthy negotiations for a top-level meeting was up to the Soviets. Says Note Disappointing The Russian reply said the U.S. note "cannot but disappoint everyone who regards the Summit talks as a dependable means, of relaxing international tensions and terminating the cold war which the peoples have come to hate.” Assistant Secretary of State Francis O- Wilcox Monday reiterated U.S. willingness to attend Summit talks if there was advance evidence — as demanded by the President — that such conversations would "actually resolve issues.”

10th Annual Hoosier Relays On Saturday BLOOMINGTON (UP)—Officials , hope about 1,000 trick men from . about 60 high schools will make . the 10th annual Hoosier Relays j the biggest ever. All eleven events will be held ‘ Saturday between noon and 10 • p.m. according to the schedule in • the Indiana University Fieldhouse ■ Most of the prep thinclads will ‘ be getting their first taste of com- 1 petition this season and four 1957 state champions are entered. Last year five Relays records were broken and another tied and the quantity of talent should produce more record-smashing this year. Only one defending individual champion will be back — Bob Leech of Warren Central who tossed the shot 52 feet 11 inches ' at the 1957 Relays. No championship trophy will be given for the entire meet but trophies will go to the schools winning the five relay events. The four state champions expected to be on hand are Charlie Hall of Terre Haute Gerstmeyer in the high jump and his teammate Art Deßow in the 440 yard dash, Fort Wayne North’s Tom Seifert who helped his team to the 1957 state title and Russ Lash of Indianapolis Howe, state mile champion. Lash has been having trouble getting into shape because of an operation and colds and will not be able to compete in his specialty because there is no mile event in the Relays. But he was expected to try distance and relay events if he was ready. Each school will be allowed to enter two men in all six individevents and more than 300 individual medals will be handed out. The Relays grew out of a triangular indoor - meet between Howe, Bloomington and Warren Central. Howe athletic director Sam Kelley started the Relays in 1948. The first year they drew only seven teams but it has been exploding every year. Kelley said he prbbably would be forced to limit each school to only three relay events.
