Good Golf Weather Lures Ike To South Spending Week At Georgia Club WASHINGTON (W-Good golfing weather lured President Eisenhower south today for a week end at one of his favorite vacation sites, the Augusta (Ga.) National Golf club. He planned to fly to Augusta aboard the presidential plane Columbine 111, returning late Sunday or Monday morning. The President decided to go to Augusta late Friday after learning that ’mild weather was forecast there this week end. The forecast was for temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s and partially cloudy, but no rain or snow. Bad weather, snow, this week, has kept the President off the golf course for some time. Bad traveling weather prevented him from flying to West Point, N. Y., for a reunion Friday with fellow military academy alumni at an award presentation lunch. Accompanying the President were his physician, Maj. Gen. Howard McC. Snyder; White House Press Secretary James C. Hagerty, and a fellow member of the Augusta National—William E. Robinson, president of the Coca Cola Corp. Hagerty said Eisenhower’s i weekend program called for onlygolf, rest and maybe a little bridge. This was Eisenhower’s first visit to Augusta since the last weekend in January. Coming Attractions At Adams Theater Filmed with the co-operation of the United States Navy, "The Enemy Below,” showing at the Adams Sunday and Monday, brings to the screen one of the most exciting service pictures ever produced. Robert Mitchum is seen as the commander of a U. S. desroyer, who duels to the death a German submarine with Curt Jurgens as commander. The picture is packed with tremendous excitment and suspense and yas photographed in beautiful Technicolor. Mickey Rooney has an unusual rote as the FBl’s most notorious enemy in “Baby Nelson,” coming*' to the Adams Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Based on actual facts, the pictures reenacts the Chicago mob massacre and the trapping of John Dillinger in front of a Chicago theater. Included in the cast are Carolyn Jones, who has appeared in 30 TV shows, Cedric Hardwicks, and Tony Caruso. — - BRUTAL - I (Continued from page one) had to postpone a flight to Moscow until 9:41 p.m. Damage to the Bell Telephone Co. alone was estimated to be $1,500,00 by a company spokesman. Considerably milder weather prevailed over the rest of the nation. The Rockies and the Plains States had snow flurries, while rain was general along the Pacific Coast early today. BRAZIL (Continued rrom page one) executive committeeman from Indiana, presented the cash awards to each of the final contestants. Judge Myles F. Parrish then addressed the group on “I am an American.” Judge Parrish pointed out many of the constitutional guarantees and some of the individuals who have emphasized certain points of these guarantees. After the dinner the speech class of the high school sponsored a dance at the center for the guests. CANTON, S. D. Britain To Proceed With Rocket Bases ! vMacmillan Outlines ; Britain's Policies LONDON (UP)—Britain would be satisfied if only “limited” results developed from an EastWest summit conference. Prime Minister Harold Macmillan said Friday night. Conference or no, he said, this country \ .will” go ' . its with its plans to establish rocket bases capable of striking at the heart of Russia and with tests to produce better H-bombs regardless of what the Russians say about n - Macmillan put his government s policies on the line in a speech at the annual dinner of Parliamentary Press Gallery. “It is not the arms race itself which causes war,” he said. “The causes are far deeper than that. “Peace has been preserved so far not because the West has disarmed but because the present balance of power is roughly equal. I would not like to be responsible for the outcome if we were to abandon that balance.” The Prime Minister warned the West not to “expect too much” of a summit meeting. He said to do so would court disappointment. Counterfeiter Given Seven-Year Sentence <? INDIANAPOLIS (ID — William G. Kerns, 36, Aurora, was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday on a federal charge of possessing counterfeiting plates. Kerns was sentenced by Judge William E. Senate Baffled By Attorney General Stand On Freedom Os Information Bill WASHINGTON (UP) — Sen Thomas C. Hennings Jr. (D-Mo.) said Friday Atty. Gen. William P. Rogers has taken a “'completely baffling” stand on a “freedom of information” bill before Congress. Hennings, chairman of the Senate Constitutional Rights subcommittee. released a letter from Rogers explaining his testimony before the subcommittee March 6. Rogers said in the letter that an old law which would be changed by the pending bill has supported the right of the President and his aides to refuse certain information to Congress since 1789. However, the letter said, “the historic refusals of the executive branch to acquiesce in congressional demands for executive documents have been based, not on any statute alone, but on the Constitution alone.” He said the pending bill could not repeal the executive's right to refuse documents, but eotrifi “confuse” the traditional separation of the branches of government. Assistant Defense Secretary Murray Snyder meantime suggested that newspapermen should spend some time on the “other side of the fence" learning about the government they often criticize. He said secrecy remains the basic information problem faced by 'government—“how to make the maximum available" without hurting the operations, groups or individuals involved Snyder, who heads the Pentagon's information program, said in an address before a college forum here Friday night that the American people had a right to know’ that their officials are not playing fast and loose with security information. But, he said, both the government and political writers with “no personal knowledge of how government operates might profit by a little experience on the other side of the fence." One Man Arrested In East Chicago Holdup EAST CHICAGO (W — Robert Petraborg, 35, Chicago, was arrested in a Chicago motel late Friday in connection with the $13,150 robbery of Baker’s Bar here Monday. Points To Need Os Controlling Unions Says Kohler Case Points Necessity ' WASHINGTON (IB — Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.) said today that the United Auto Workers’ strike and boycott against the Kohler Co. point up the need "for some control over huge unions that flout the law.” Goldwater, a member of the Senate Rackets committee investigating the Kohler dispute, said labor groups should be brought under the federal anti-trust law. But he conceded there is no chance for passage of such legislation this year. He said he did not even plan to introduce a labor anti - trust measure because there is not enough time left at this session of Congress for hearings on it. Goldwater referred to efforts by the UAW to persuade city governments to bar use of plumbing fixtures made by the Sheboygan, Wis., firm in municipal projects. When unions "come to the point of restraining trade,” he said, Congress should take the same sort of anti-trust action that it did against corporations in 1914. Committee Chairman John L. McClellan (D-Ark.) and some other committee mmebers commented Friday that the UAW’s boycott tactics, if not outlawed by the Taft-Hartley Law's ban on secondary boycotts, indicated a need for stronger legislation in this field. The union claims its boycott was legal and did not violate the TaftHartley law. Cincinnati Star Is Still Semi-Conscious CINCINNATI, Ohio (IP — Cincinnati Royals star center Maurice Stokes, who collapsed aboard a plane a week ago, today still was in a semi-conscious condition. Royals team physician Dr. Benjamin Hawkins said Stokes’ illness had not definitely been established as encephalitis but that signs pointed to it. Encephalitis is commonly known as sleeping sickness. Physicians at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington, Ky. were awaiting the results of blood specimens taken to the U. (£ public health laboratory in Louisville, for tests. Hawkins said Stokes' condition was improving and he was able to respond to simple commands. PRESENT (Continued from page one) development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service. “Members of Rotary clubs endeavor to exemplify their motto, ‘Service above self,’ in all their daily business, social and civic contacts by placing the obligation to serve others before the desire for profit for themselves. A Rotary dub selects its membership on the basis of one active member from each recognized business and profession in the community, so that it is a representative cross-section of the business and professional interest and activities in the community.”' FCC (Continued from page one) Broadcasting Co. for TV Channel 17 at Camden. NJ. The congressman urged the FCC to consider the case at a hearing the following day and to grant the application “if a grant otherwise appears to be in the public interest.” The FCC awarded South Jersey a construction permit for the TV station in 1954. However, the station is not yet on the air. REPORT (Continued from page one) ments in the past with the names of farmers who filled them out covered up to protect their identity. Reporters asked Paarlberg Ts they could see the population questionnaires in question under the same conditions. He refused, saying it would be “inappropriate to drag those things out right now" and anyway he would “like to check the legal implications first.” Trade in a good town — Decatur
