Two With Same Name In Race For Sheriff Two Peter Mandichs In Lake County Race GARY (UP)—Lake County officials today pondered the solution to the muddled race for sheriff in the May 6 primary, with two Peter Mandichs seeking the office. Mayor Peter Mandich of Gary recently filed for the office and was considered a prime favorite to win th Democratic nomination. But Saturday, another Peter Mandich filed on the Democratic ticket for the same office. The second Mandich, no kin to the Gary mayor, is a steel mill operator. He has a middle initial, but did not use it in filing. Lake County Prosecutor Metro Holovachka immediately issued a subpena ordering the crane operator to appear before a Lake County grand jury March 28 to explain his reasons for filing. Holovachka, a political ally of the mayor, said he believes the other Mandich filed to “confuse the issue.” E.A. Forszt, a Munster optometrist whose brother is a county
commissioner, is considered Mayor Mandlch’s chief opponent. But he denied he had anything to do with the political aspirations of the crane operator. “Thd filing of this man came as a complete surprise to me,” he said “I don’t know him, never saw him and have never talked to him. Certainly we have nothing to do with it. It’s not our kind of politics.” Crane operator Mandich also must appear before the Lake County Election Board March 29 to explain his reasons for filing. In a similar case involving Lake County Criminal Court Judge William J. Murray a few years ago, another William J. Murray was thrown off the ballot. HEAVY (Continued rrom page one) while his license was suspended. They said Comer told them he panicked when he taw the McGovern vehicle on *nre. I MOORE (Continued from page one) was White House influence and said “many other cases” also showed the White House had intervened to influence FPC decisions. Like the FCC and SEC, the FPC is supposed to be an independent agency. REBEL (Continued from page one) side. Sukarno, speaking Sunday at mass meetings in Bandung ano Jakarta, denounced the rebels as ’ "foreign tools” who “must be 1 punished.” In Manila, Foreign Secretary , Felixberto M. Serrano warned ! that “interference in the internal , affairs of the Indonesian people” might convert the revolt into a "fatal” threat to world peace.
