Says Dodgers Not Worried On Catcher VERO BEACH, Fla. (UP)-Any elub looking for a catcher? Not file Los Angeles Dodgers, who have lost one of the best in the business—Roy Campanella. ‘‘They all are saying we are hurting for catching since that un- . fortunate automobile accident to i Roy,” said General Manager Buz- „ zy Bavasi of the Dodgers, j “But I don’t think we’re too bad off tor catching. After all, how . many really good catchers are 1 there in the league?” > Walter Alston, the Dodger man--1 ager sitting next to Bavasi, lifted > up two fingers. » "You can name them,” Alston t said. “I won't.’’ Pretty Clear t There was no doubt he meant > Ed Bailey of the Cincinnati Redlegs and Stan Lopata of the Phil- . adelphia Phillies. “We aren’t making any offers i for any catchers,” said Bavasi. > “We are not worried about our . catching.” > Asked if he wasn’t saying that because the other dubs may set s too high a value on what catchi ing they have, Bavasi replied: "Definitely not. We always are willing to listen to deals and we > always are willing to make them I But if the other teams in this . league — and in the American League, too — think they have us ' over the barrel because we’ve • lost Campy, they have another i think coming.” He called Rube Walker, who has been Campanella's under- • study for years, "as good a catch- • er as there is in the league.” Last year Walker wored in 60 games, but hit only .181. Because’ of his running, he is known ■ around the league as baseball’s "slow boat to China.” Can’t Miss — “But we’ll take him,” Bavasi said. “And to help him out we : have a kid by the name Joe Pignatano. Our scouts say he can’t miss.” Told that there were reports that the Dodgers had outfielder Sandy Amoros waived out of the league so he tould be used for trade 1 bait for a catcher with an American League club, Bavasi said: “That's ridiculous. We don’t have our eyes on any American Leagueeatcher, any more than we have them on any National League catchers — except those on our own club. Soap To Burn WATERLOO, N. Y.
