Taylor, ptate 4-H club leader at Purdue university, prior to the start of national 4-H club week, March 1-8, Under the 4-H program, Indiana club members in 1957 raised 244,751 chickens and turkeys. They grew 32,131 acres of corn, 2,873 acres of home gardens and raised 15,451 hogs and 6,921 dairy animals. Club members electing to participate in home economics projects prepared 572,063 baked products. They planned and served
110,701 meals, canned 76,890 quarts of fruits and vegetables, froze 54,774 quarts plus 31,012 pounds of food and made 54,559 garments and 32,393 other articles in clothing projects. The vitality of the 4-H program is attested to by the fact that in 1957 enrollment and number of projects carried rose to record heights. Indiana had 83,417 4-H members doing 345,385 projects. Taylor, who released the report of 1957 activities, gives credit for the increased activity to the 4210

adult leaders, the 10,868 junior leaders, the county extension agents, parents and cooperating civic and commercial organizations. Youths between the ages of 10 and 21 are eligible for 4-H membership. Information on the program may be obtained from the county extension office. The nation’s first all-freight airline was founded in 1945 by a group of 12 members of the famous Flying Tigers who flew with Gen. Clair Chennauit in China.
