The Republicans are after Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson again and this time they might get him ousted. Remember, this is a year for national elections and pressure on Ike will be pretty strong. o—o Congratulations to James Hoffman, Adams Central and John Fuhrman, Monmouth, for winning the county music contest. Both young men show a talent and both should go far in the field of music. These winners are as valuable to their schools as the winners of any athletic championship. The eighth annual contest was sponsored again by the county federation of women's clubs. o o ■ We admire former President Harry Truman for being so outspoken in his criticism of the bungling of the present administration on missiles and the depression among other things. Mr. Truman is* well versed on public affairs and one of the sadedst mistakes of the Ike administration was to shut him off completely from advice and counsel which he might have given. Mr. Truman, while generally blunt, also is generally right and after scoffing at his suggestions the top powers almost always fall in line and adopt his suggestions. o o— — Auto production in all major lines is still off but there are some predictions that sales are catching up and that soon most of the factories will be running full steam again. When and if this happens, other component parts makers will also start calling employes back and we may shake away from the depression before too long. o o jgives some easy methods of cleaning spots from auto upholstery. Chewing gum, candy and ice cream, biggest offenders can be removed with warm water and more stubborn spots can be taken off with a solution of tetrachloride. Users of the tetrachloride are warned to keep the Windows open while using this treatment.

Spring-like weather 18 here at least temporarily and it should make us all feel good. That doesn’t mean winter is over, but it surely means that the worst of the cold weather is through and we can expect numerous balmy days between now and the middle of April. -—o—o Employment has shown some slight increase in the Decatur area and this is being reflected by the increase in traffic at local stores. Shoppers are daily seeing the advantages of shopping in Decatur and they’re snapping up bargains each day. We sincerely hope that the recession is over and locally it well could be. ——o o—— President Eisenhower is back in Washington after another vacation and he faces a lot of problems and worries. The Republican party is torn Into factions. He faces missile problems and the whole nation faces a depression which he has been attempting to cure with mere words and no action. His last year in office will be best with ever increasing political worries and increased pressure. Maybe the country * would be better off if he took more and longer vacations, but if he did they would start colliding with each other. At any rate we are sure the president shares, the wish of many millions that his term were over right now. o o— Motorists who purchase foreign made automobiles on the premise that they save money on both purchase price and cost per mile, also should take into account the fact that these foreign made cars also have to be serviced in this country and it is only natural that American made cars will have ; the priority and you may be stuck with a car which won’t run and then you’U have to arrange for transportation. You will no doubt be the winner in the long run if you consider purchase of a foreign car for a long time. They aren’t as good as they’re painted, just because you can save a little money, on the purchase price. , x 7
