LEGION (Cuillluued from Page One) , membership to keep the present administration from reducing all pensions. Gates asserted. He plans , to visit Washington next week, and talk with all the Indiana congressmen. However, Indiana has only 84.6 of its membership of last year running 4,000 cards behind. This cuts its influence with vote-hun-gry congressmen, who are interested in membership. Guests introduced included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fritz of Bluffton; Bob Erdman, Columbia City; all officers of Post 43, and directors of the building association^ Mrs, Willard Smith, presently state vicepresident of 4he auxiliary, and a candidate for president; members of the committee which arranged the banquet, including A. J. Baker, punch committee; Dee Fryback, dinner and dance. Following the brief speeches, the Ohio commander, who had made a bet with the Indiana commander that the Buckeye membership would exceed the Hoosier membership on Dec. 31, paid off his bet, as his state lost. However, Gates, in accepting the present, cautioned the members by saying that Ohio is now leadign Indiana, with 87% of its members signed up, compared with Indiana’s 84.6%. A dance was held following the dinner in the Legion hall. WORLD fContlnueu from page one) during the evening by Donna Shoaf and Jimmy Hoffman.
