HBSSSKSS3SS==SSS==W Creamed Comments on the Suab day School Lesson, The Preaching Mission of the Church, Romans 10:1447; Epheasians 3:749, for Sunday, February 16. The teaching ministry stresses helping others to see the truth, while the preaching ministry emphasizes the importance of acting an the truth. The older religions gave no place to preaching, so the early Christian church had to work out its own concepts of preaching. Paul spread the gospel around the Mediterranean world by preaching and founding churches, carrying out Christ’s command to preach the gospel in all the world. This lesson t deals with th* importance of preaching. V. 14. “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed: and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” The answer to these rhetorical questions is. of course, it can't be done*' A preacher is to create a personal faith' in the heart of man, but they must have a knowledge of God before personal faith is possible, hence a preacher must proclaim the truths of the Christian
faith. V. 15. “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written. How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” Preaching the gospel is not just an ordinary task. It is a calling and a divine-

ly commissioned work. Paul felt such a call and answered it. The passage referred to in the latter part of the verse is from Isaiah 5?: 7. Vs. 16, 17. “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? ... So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The quotation mentioned is from Isaiah 53.1. There can only be faith from Is heard in the preaching about Christ. . ■ ' Vs. 7, 8. “I was made a minister, according to the gift of the krace of God, given unto me by the effectual working of his power -. . Unto me, who a miles than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable 1 riches of Christ;” Paul was made ! minister .of the gospel of Christ i to the Gentiles by Christ himself. I • Acts 26:16-8 >. He always felt hu- ! miliated when he thought of the [ way in which he had persecuted I the Christians before he himself. became a Christian. In the early church, Christians were referred to as saints rather than Christians. “The unsearchable riches > of Christ” was the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge. The "gift of God’s grace” is what makes one's preaching more than mere human wisdom. Vs. 9, 10, 11. “And to make all men see what is the fellwoship of the mystery, which from the be-! ginning of the world has been hid hid in God. who created all things by Jesus Christ: . . . To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in havenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, . . . According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:” Paul expounded to the people this mysterious plan of salvation which had long been hidden, but which was revealed through Christ’s death and teachings.
