Martinez of Paterson, N.J., drew a bye Monday that assured him a title fight, during the unusual drawing ceremony at offices of the Ring magazine. The draw for the three survivors in the tourney had been ordered by the World Championship Boxing Committee. Logart will be favored at about 9-5 if his fight with Akins of St. Louis is held anywhere but -in Virgil's hometown, St. Louis. And Logart's manage) 1 , Eddie Mafuz, declared angrily today, “Logart will never fight him in St. Louis. If Akins wants a hometown fight, he can meet Logart in Havana.'* Mafuz also repeated Monday's declaration that the Cuban must get a guarantee of $40,000, wherever and whenever he fights Akins- Bernie Glickman, Akins' co-pilot, announced that Virgil would accept no smaller guarantee or percentage than Logart gets. • Boxing men believe each will wind up with a guarantee of between $20,000 and $25,000 for their interesting “rubber match." They fought twice in 1955 and each won a decision.

does everything well with a basketball, has been outscoring Yardley the last two weeks, partly because he is the workhorse of the eight team league. --- Official scoring figures released today show that Yardley has scored 1411 points in 53 games for a 26.6 average. Schayes has 1336 points in 52 games for a 25.7 average. But in the two weeks since the All-Star game, Schayes has averaged 29.4 points per game to Yardley’s 23.3. Yardley was handicapped by an ankle injury last week. Projecting the scoring figures over a full 48 minute game. Yardley would lead all regulars with 328 points per game to 32.7 for
Bob Pettit of St. Louis and 30 3 for Schayes. Again, Schayes had an advantage because he is the ironman of the pros, averaging 40.2 minutes per game. Yardley has averaged about two minutes less. Pettit leads a three way race for third place in scoring with 1193 points to 1167 for Clyde Lovellette of Cincinnati and 1163 for Bill Sharman of Boston. Sharman,' who injured a thigh Sunday, will be sidelined for two or three weeks.
