[ Berne Loses To Ossian By 47-43 Score Two bands of Bears staged quite a battle at Berne Saturday night, with the Ossian Bears defeating the Berne Bears, 47-43. with the victory coming at the free throw line. The quintets were tied at the first quarter, 6-6, but the Wells county champions held an 18-14 lead at the half, and a 31-22 advantage at the third period. Berne outscored Ossian from the field, 17-10, but made only nine free throws while Ossian converted 27, Kunifer led Ossian with 17 points, 11 on free throws. For Berne, Gary Beaty tallied 14 and Bryce Winteregg 10. Berne has a pair of youth road this week, playing at Bluffton Tuesday night and at Montpelier Friday night. Kohne scored 12 points and Heimann 10 for the winners, and Rudy Kleinknight tallied 10 for the Lutheran team. Sunday, St. Joseph concluded play in the CYO league with an undefeated record, whipping Sacred Heart. 64-14. Blythe led all the scorers with 20, and J. Kohne had 12. McKee, with five points, was high for Sacred Heart. The Decatur team will not compete in the CYO tourney tlys year, as St. Mary’s parish is now in the Huntington deanery and not in Fort Wayne, as formerly. Three games will be played Tuesday night, five Friday night, and one Saturday. The Decatur Commodores, who moved into the top spot in the county standings Friday night as the Hartford Gorillas were knocked over by Roll, will be on the road twice this week. The Commodores wil play at Geneva Tuesday night, with the Limberlost Bell, which the Commodores won by taking the county tourney championship, at stake against the Cardinals. In Tuesday’s other encounters, the Adams Central Greyhounds will entertain the Bryant Owls at Adams Central, and the Berne Bears invade the lair of the Bluffton Tigers. ’ Only two of Friday's games will be played in the county. The Commodores will move out to Pleasant Mills to meet the Spartans, and the Eagles will host the Allen county champion Hoagland Wildcats at the Monmouth gym. Adams Central will travel to Monroeville, Berne plays at Montpelier, and Geneva will be at Albany. Decatur and Adams county fans will have an opportunity to see one of the state’s topranked teams Saturday night, when the Yellow Jackets are hosts to the powerful Fort Wayne Central Tigers. Central hast lost only two games all season and is ranked among the top three or four teams in Indiana. In Johnny Kelso, Central has one of the star performers of Indiana high school basketball. The Fort Wayne Concordia Cadets still lead the Northeastern Indiana conference, chalking up their fifth victory Friday over Bluffton to make the Concordia record 5-0. Kendallville is second at 3-1 and Garrett third at 2-1. The championship likely will be decided Saturday night when the Cadets play at Garrett.
