Potential candidate for the various county and township offices are getting itchy and chances are more will announce soon. Some of the announced candidates already are starting to solicit voters and in another few weeks, we’U be in the midst of a good primary campaign. Do you remember back a few years ago when Doc Sherwood, one of then Gov. Craig’s closest friends and advisors left his Indiana home to live in Florida and Craig said “Sherwood is one of the finest and smartest Republicans” in Indiana? Wonder what he thinks now? o o Rudy Meyer, prominent Adams county conservationist and Decatur business man, will be master of ceremonies tonight at the annual district banquet and election at St. Johns school north of Decatur. Dr. John Harshler of Goshen college will be the principal - speaker and those who have heard him say that he has a message of interest to everyone. o o Wet get numerous calls on the names and addresses of our two Senators and Representative from the Fourth district. Here they are: Senator Homer E. Capehart, Senate Office Bldg., Washington, D.C.; Senator William Jenner, Senate Office Bldg., Washington, DC.; Congressman E. Ross Adair, House Office Bldg., Washington, D.C. o. o Miss Susie' Sutton, talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sutton and a senior at Decatur Catholic high school has been crowned queen of that school for the coming year. Miss Sutton received the crown from Miss Marjorie Kohne, 1957 queen. Competition was keen and all four of the contestants are to be congrats ulated. We are sure that Miss Sutton will well represent her school as Queen and we congratulate her and wish her continued success.

The young degenerate and his girl friend who killed at least ten people in a crazy spree has been brought back to his home state to face murder charges. The sad thing is that each has only one life to give for the series of crimes, worst in midwest history in a long time. o o Now is a good time to get your 1958 auto license plates, and if you do it immediately you won’t have to stand in line those long hours waiting for your numbers. Remember you must have your current tax receipt to get your plates. o o— Drive with caution because there are many slippery s>pots even on main highways and the other fellow might hit one of them and come crashing toward you. If you have to drive in this kind of weather, proceed with care, ——o O'Ken Eliasson, from Sweden, •exchange student at Decatur high f school, was the Rotary club speaker last week and he proved that his effort to come here was well worth the time and effort. The young man has made many friends here and he has fit well into our way of life. He will return to his native land after completing his year in school and we are sure he will take back with him many fond memories of his visit. ——,o O While most industry is sweating it out with sickening feelings as business falls Off, cigaret manufacturers are reaping a harvest with filter cigarets, Many of these cigarets are made of inferior blends of tobacco and the profits continue to roll in. If prices of cigarets were reduced about fifty percent, manufacturers still would have a handsome profit. t As long as we continue to smoke, and flit around from one brand to another, that business will continue to go sky high on their profits. There is no doubt we all would be -much-better of f if^we= r . stopped smoking completely.
