MISS MARILYN ALICE WECK ENGAGED TO LLOYD KIESS Miss Marilyn Alice Week is engaged to marry Lloyd J. Kiess, according to an announcement made recently by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester F, Week, of route 2, Ohio City, Ohio. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Kiess, of route 1, Decatur. A graduate of Van Wert high school, the bride-elect is employed as secretary at the National . Seal company. Kiess was graduated from Monmouth high school, and is presently engaged in farming. . Definite.weddihg plans have not been revealed. LOCAL WOMEN OF MOOSE TO HOST WINTER CONFERENCE “A glorious past and a brilliant future" will be the theme of the mid-winter conference of the Women of the Moose. which will be held at the Moose home Sunday, starting at 1:30 p. m. Mrs. Wesley Morris, Decatur, is general chairman of the conference, and Mrs. Marcelene Osborn, of Marion, is conference leader. The address of welcome will be given by Mrs. Bert Haley, followed by the response, by Mrs. Lola Irwin, of Marion. Mrs. Evelyn Kingsley, accompanied by Mrs. George Myers, will then render a vocal solo. Chapters participating will be from Decatur, Bluffton, Marion. Dunkirk. Portland and Hartford City. Formal initiation of a class of candidates will be held in honor of the college of regents. Mrs. Meldron Kreps. Decatur, will be in charge of the social houf which will follow the afternoon session. ROSARY SOCIETY MEETING HAS LARGE ATTENDANCE A large crowd attended the regular meeting of the Rosary society. held Monday evening at the K. of C. hall, it was reported today. BETROTHAL OF MISS BUTCHER TO KEITH IGNEY ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. Walter Butcher, of 112 North Ninth street, have announced the betrothal of their daughter, Miss Rheta Butcher, to Keith Igney, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Igney, of 2723 Hoagland, Fort Wayne. -v The bride-elect is a graduate of Decatur high school, and is presently employed as secretary to the law firm of DeVoss & Smith. Her fiance was graduated from South Side high school, Fort Wayne, and Indiana University. He is now a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Otis Air- Force base nr Massachusetts ; A spring wedding is being planned by the couple. MRS. G. REMY BIERLY IS HOSTESS TO GARDEN CLUB , Mrs. G. Remy Bierly was hostess for a meeting of the Decatur Garden club, which met at her home Tuesday afternoon. Assisting MrS. Bierly was Mrs. Don Lutes. Mrs. Amos Yoder, president of the organization, called the meeting to order, followed by the dub collect and the verse of the month, which was repeated in unison. Seventeen members answered roll call by naming a garden problem. During the business meeting, conducted by Mrs. Yoder. Mrs. Harvey Koos was Reinstated as a member of the club. An election of officers was then held, with the following results: president, Mrs. Don Mac Lean: vice president, Mrs Wesley Lehman; secretary. Mrs. Fred Hancher, and treasurer, Mrs. Calvin Yost. An interesting article on conservation was presented by Mrs Henry Heller, followed by the les son. "Lawn, Walks and Stepping Stones," given by Mrs. Lutes. Mrs. Yost was presented the door prize, and the hostesses served refreshments during the social hour which followed the meeting. SURPRISE PARTY GIVEN FOR MISS CHERYL DIANE COOK Miss Cheryl Diane Cook, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cook. Pleasant Mills, was the guest of honor at a surprise birthday party Saturday, given in observance of Cheryl’s seventh birthday anniversary. Each party guest was presented u. ith a gay party hat upon her arrival, after which bingo, donkey party and fish pond were played. Later, appropriate birthday refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Cook, Mrs, Fred Bauman, a grandmother, and Mrs. Obed Kipfer, Mrs. Richard Bauman and Miss Norma Bauman, aunts of the guest of honor. CATHOLIC LADIES ATTEND POT-LUCK DINNER TUESDAY j The Catholic Ladies of Colum-| bia attended a pot-luck dinner Tuesday evening, in the club rooms of the C. L. of C. hall. Following the meal, a cake walk was held, with Mrs. Robert Gage declared the winner. Later, games were played with prizes awarded to Mrs. Joe Kitson in bridge; Mrs. Louis Wolpert in pinochle; Mrs. Gage in "500 ; and Mrs. William Schumacher in rhum. After opening verse, led by Mrs. William Christen, sorority president, report of the secretary and treasurer were given by Mrs. Roger Schuster and Mrs. Donald Walters, respectively, and correspondence from the past month was read by Mrs. Richard Mies. The Wells county high school oratorical contest will be held this evening at 8 o’clock at the Bluffton Legion home. The winner will compete against other district winners, including an Adams county winner, to be chosen later. Mrs. KaUie Small and Mrs. Ethel, Sheets, of Decatur, have been admitted to the Bluffton Clinic hospital for treatment. Harve Garboden, of Hartford township, is confined to his home following a stroke suffered a few weeks ago. • Girl Scouts Troop 20 had a meeting at the Lincoln school.
