School Officials Sued For Damages -- Three Middletown Teachers Are Sued NEW CASTLE (UPI—A basketball coach and two Henry County school . officials Tuesday were named in a $25,000 assault and battery suit filed by Raymond Riley of Middletown on behalf of his son, James, 16. Named as co-defendants in the suit filed in Henry Circuit Court were coach Von Jameson. Middletown High School Principal Fred Haskett and Butler Crawford, superintendent of Middletown-Fall Creek Twp. schools. . „ The suit contends the Riley youth was “assaulted, pushed, hit and beaten" by Jameson. It also Charges that—Haskett- -assaultedthe boy "not while engaged in self defense " and Crawford threatened the boy.. Riley said in the suit that the alleged incident happened Sept 25 when the school officials asked his son to return to school. He said he returned to school Nov. 1. It was then, he said, that Crawford and Haskett threatened him if he ever entered the building again. The boy has been "ill, nervous and emotionally upset" since the incident, Riley charged -in the suit. But Haskett told United Press there is "absolutely no truth in the charges " He said the boy was "uncooperative and because he was over the legal age limit, he was asked not to return." .... “After you are over the legal age. going to school is a privilege." he said. "If you abuse the privilege you should not be al- • lowed to go to school." Haskett said there were witnesses to the incident which allegedly occurred "during a gym L period.
