Spartans Lose To Ohio City By 71-32 Score Marvin Walls, senalional shooting star all season, led the Ohio City Warriors to a 71-32 victory Over the Pleasant Mills Spartans at the Pleasant Mills gym Saturday night. \ Walls outscored the entire Pleasant Mills team as he poured 47 points on 16 field goals and 15 free trows. Ohio City led at the first quarter, 16-4, at the half, 3419. and at the third period, 48-26. Roger Snyder, with 10 points, was the only Spartan in double fi- , gures. Pina added 12 for Ohio City. The Spartans will meet the Adams Central Greyhounds in the second game Thursday night in the coutny tourney. The Decatur Yellow Jackets, who do not compete in die county tourney, have 'two games on tap this week. The Jackets will battle the Huntington Vikings at Huntington Tuesday, and return to their home court Friday to meet the Auburn Red Devils. ■—oOo— The Berne Bears and the Decatur Commodores will open play! in the county tourney, at 7 o’clock ! Thursday evening. Commodore fans were heartened today when it was indicated that Phil Reed, regular center, probably will be able to play. Reed suffered a badly sprained ankle at Anderson Jan. 4, and twas unable to play against Hartford last weex, but worked out with the team today and, barring --further injury,' will be in uniform Thursday. The cellar spot lb the team standings will be at stake in Thursday night’s second game when the Pleasant Mills , Spartans meet the Adams Central Greyhounds. Each team has won two games and Adams Central has dropped nine contests and Pleasant Mills 10. The first round of play will be completed Friday night. The second team champion will be named in the final game of that tourney, starting at 7 o’clock, and then the Hartford Gorillas and Monmouth Eagles will clash at 8:15 p.m. Semi-final games will be played Saturday afternoon, with winners of the Thursday night tilt meeting at 1 o’clock. In the second - game, the Geneva Cardinals, who drew the bye, will meet the windier of the Hartford-Monmouth clash. & The championship- game will be played at 8 o’clock Saturday night. 1 mmediately following the final, Gail Grabill, eounty school superintendent, will present the Daily Democrat trophies to- the champions of both tourneys, and the individual sportsmanship trophy, given by Robert Monnier. Season tickets for the tourney, priced at $2, are on sale by the seven participating schools. Single session, tickets will be priced at 75 cents, and will be on sale only at the Adams Central gym, prior to each session. —oOo—- — Berne Bears are the de- . fending champions in both the first and second team tourneys. Berne will also bring the Limberlost Wet, the county’s traveling trophy, to the tourney, with the champion gaining possession. Play will open tonight in the sec--ofid learn tourney. Two games will be played at Monmouth, with Adams Central and Monmouth meeting at 6:30 o’clock, followed by Berne and Decatur Catholic. Pleasant Mills and Geneva Will play at 7 o'clock tonight at Pleasant Mills, with the winner meeting Hartford Tuesday. These winners will then meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Adams Central for the second team title. The Fort Wayne Concordia Cadets took over first place in the Northeastern Indiana conference race Saturday night by handing Kendallville its first oss of the season. Coon Hunters Meet Thursday Evening • The Adams county coon hunters association will have a special meeting at 8 p.m.. Thursday, at the club house. Flint Shoot Held Sunday Afternoon An invitational flint round shoot ' was conducted at the 4-H building in Monroe Sunday, sponsored by the Limberlost Archery and Conservation club. Ribbons were won by two guests from Indianapolis, and eight regular club members. They < are free style shooters Mr. and Mrs. James Rockley, of Indianapolis, both of whom placed first in the mtn's and women s expert class, respectively. Ribbons' won by instinctive shooters in the men’s division were Lester Mitchell, first expert; Max Rauch, second expert; Richard Rambo, first Bowman; Jim Shackley, first archer, and Dan Shackley, first nov.ice. In the junior division,- David Mitchell won a ribbon as' first expert; Jerry Morningstar as first bowman, and Tom Drake as first areher.
