GRETCHEN SCHNEPP ENGAGED TO WED Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Schntepp of rural route 1, Monroe, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their eldest daughter, Gretchen Ann, to Berdell Lee Lehman, son of Mr., and Mrs. Marvin Lehman, of Berne. The wedding is being planned for the Uth of May. A graduate of Adams Central, the bride-elect is presently employed at the Lincoln National Life Insurance company. Her fiance was graduated from Berne high school and is employed as a mechanic at the Moser *Motor Sales in Berne. WOMEN OF MOOSE MEET LAST EVENING The Women of the Moose met Thursday evening for their chapter meeting. Initiation of candi- j dates was postponed until January j 26. when the local chapter will be | hostess to the mid-winter conference. College of Regent members I are invited to attend the executive meeting which will be held January 16. The amendment to the club constitution, stating the number of meeting one must attend to be member of $ home demonstration club, was repealed. ’ The year’s program, including the following lessons, was discussed: "Eating is fun,’’ “The duties and rights of a citizen," "Meat cookery,” “Simple company meals,” and* “Mental health of adults.” A special interest meeting for all men and women of the county will be held Mar. 18 on “Cutting meat for the freezer." There will be two sewing schools thik year, one following Easter, and the other after school begins next fall. The infant has been named Nancy Lee. Fire Department Called Thursday The Decatur fire department made a run yesterday to extinguish a fire caused, by a gas furance. The fire broke out in toe i home of Fred Hoffman at 922 Line i street. , _ i The only visible damage occurred in the wiring of the furance. 1 The department was called at 4:05 1 p.m. and returned at 4:15 p.m.

Legora Markle was general chairman of the event which included mixer games, recreation, buffet supper, and relays and games. Alice Kukelham and Roger Habegger were in charge of the recreation period. Approximately 50 young people from Adams, Blackford Wells, and . Grant counties enjoyed the eve- . ning activities and welcomed the , New Year. Ward Calland, who-has been 'ill at Adams county memorial hospital for the last two weeks, today was removed to Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne. Charles J. Thompson. 31. of route 2, was arrested by theißluffton city police for operating a motor vehicle without a license, when it was discovered that his license was not valid. Convalescing at her home at 225 Grant Street Is Mrs. Carrie Brown. Mrs. Brown fell Sunday and Xrays have been taken to determine the seriousness of the injury.
