PROFIT AND PLEASURE CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Profit and Pleasure Home Demonstration club met Recently home of Miss Lucy Schnepp for their December meeting. After a carry-in meal, a gift exchange was held. Using the nativity scene as the canter of attraction, a Christmas . theme was used, to decorate the home. “O Come All Ye Faithful,” the. song of the month, was sung by the members after its history was given. During the business session, new hostesses were chosen for the coming year. The roll call was answered by “My Plans for Christmais.” Most of the members planned ip geather with their families. There were 16 members and one guest. Mrs. Vernon Kiser, Resent. The devotions were given by Mrs. John Arnold and Mrs. Paul Kohne won the door prize. LEGION AUXILIARY TO SUPPORT MEASURE A bill providing scholarships and fellowships for scientific study financed by./enemy assets seized by the United States in World War II will have the support of the American Legion auxiliary when it comes before Congress next year, Mrs. Harve Baker, education and scholarship chairman of unit 43 auxiliary unit, has announced. The measure would help training scientists to meet the increasing demands of American defense and industry. Mrs. Baker explained that the bill, known as the veterans’"children scholarship act, provides $100,000,000 and is set aside for 2,000 scholarships per year for scientific, technological and engineering training, and training for teaching these sciences. There would be no cost to the American taxpayer. The United States government now bolds German and Japanese properties valued at ap-

The enemy property belongs largely to the giant industries of Germany which continued to prosper during the War. The American Legion and auxiliary believe that the property should be liquidated and the funds used to pay war damage claims of Americans citizens, qnd to educate American scientists, as provided in the bill. Members of the council of Associated Churches are asked to note the change of place concerning their Tuesday night meeting The meeting will be held at the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church instead of the originally scheduled meeting place. Mrs. Arthur Sutttes, Sr., will act as leader of the Wednesday Shakespeare club. Syria will be the topic discussed. /. Following the initiation of the Rainbow Girls this evening, a meeting of all officers with advisory reports will be held. All of the officers are asked to turn in their rituals. Articles Stolen From Decatur Auto A car belonging t<*-Miss Karen Murtaugh was ransacked Monday night in Van Wert, and sever r al articles were taken. Van Wert police reported. The car had been parked by Miks Murtaugh on East Main street, and when she returned to the car about midnight she found that it had been entered, and the front seat Missing were a pair of syn glasses, a scarf, ice skates, a wool blanket, pliers, a Tiammer and a distributor cap.

| Former Kokomo Mayor' And Postmastef Dead , KOKOMO — William H. Arnett, who served as mayor of Kokomo from 1906 to 1910 and Kokomo postmaster from 1910 to 1914, died Wednesday six days after celebrating his 90th birth anniversary. Arnett also was managing director of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce from 1926 to 1943. New Castle School Student Is Killed NEW CASTLE (IPI — Delores Jane Roseberry, 16-year-old New Castle high school junior, was killed late Tuesday when a car went out of control on a slippery Henry County road and overturned. Injured in th; accident were Pamela Goodpaster, 13, James Arnold, and Ralph Edward Loveless, 16, driver of the car, all of New Castle. All were treated at Henry County hospital and were later released. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Ross and Thelma Jean Pattie Johnson of Bryant, are the parents of a daughter, born at 4:53 p.m. She weighed seven pounds, three ounces. A seven pound, three ounce son was born at 7:33 a.m. Wednesday, to Gerald and Joyce Meyer Martin of 618 Madison street. A daughter was born at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday, to Chalmer and Kay Chesterson Huston of route 1, Rockford, Ohio. The infant weighed seven pounds, four ounces. Jack and Kay Debolt Hart of 909 % West Monroe are the parents of a seven pound, nine ounce son. The infant was born at 9:85 a.m. today.
Decatur Zone Will Award Scholarship Lutheran Laymen To Award Scholarship The Decatur zone of the Lutheran laymen’s league will again I award its own scholarship to Valparaiso University to a high school senior belonging to one of the 10 Lutheran churches of the Decatur area for the 1958-59 school year, according to an announcement by Earl Caston, zone president. Applipations for the award must be'filed by Saturday. The examination itself will be given February 15. Each applicant will be eligible to win any one* of three scholarships, the national LLL four-year award, the Northern Indiana district scholarship, or the local award. Key men in each congregation have been asked to contact prospective seniors and to solicit contributions. These men are: Zion, Decatur, Paul Wolf; St. Paul’s, Werling; St. Peter’s? Fuelling, Hugo Boerger; Immanuel, Union township, Lorenz Steele; Bethlehem, Ossian, Eugene Dettmer; Zion, Friedheim, Clarence Bultemeier; Trinity, Richard Hollman; Emmanuel, Soest, Adolph Dietrich; St. John’s, Monroeville, Wade Tyler; and St. John’s, Bingen, Gilbert Hoffman.
