Christmas will be here before we can blink an eye now, and well be entering a new year. Let’s hope that the economic adjustment is over and we’ll again start sailing along with plenty of jobs for those who want work. —- O-- O' These are busy times. There are parties, gift exchanges, dances and all else that goes with a happy holiday season. If you enter into the spirit of the season, you’ll enjoy a longer life and a happier life. ■■■ O' O Heavenly days, Nevada gambling houses are feeling the depression and have taken steps with door lotteries, contests and free drinks to attract gamblers. Isn’t that too bad that people are using their money for more gainful purposes. —< O- I-O—~ The stock market has been wobbling around mostly down- | ward and in the last ten days averages have headed bottomward. It isn’t a healthy condition for our country and everyone hopes that it will straighten out soon, because stock averages do reflect general business conditions. ——o— —o — It hasn’t been Christmas weather the last few days but shoppers continue to fill Decatur stores daily and nightly. It should be a good criterion for merchants who have wondered about what store hours they should adopt permanently. A neutral observation seems to reveal that Friday and Saturday night - openings are liked best by the area shoppers.

Several interesting baseball trades already have been announced and no doubt more will follow in the next two weeks/ Every major league team is trying to add strength with an eye on next year’s championship. —o oThe Grand Jury is in session. It is the duty of that body to investigate and also to inspect county property and make rec- , ommendations to the proper authorities. Investigations of the i grand jury are secret and the report is not published until the Court has received it and indictments, if any, are served. Jurors are not permitted to talk with each other or anyone else outside the jury room. This session probably will last a week or ten days. o o— Labor usually gets some severe kicks when industry is down, and perhaps they deserve some, but surely not all they receive. This nation could not have progressed so much if it had not been for the labor movement and while their ranks always are weakened when there is a depression, they’ll come fighting back. We’ve never agreed with radical labor and some of their outlandish demands but we certainly believe if it were not for the various labor movements, we’d still have sweat shops and 50 cents an hour employes. This nation has gained a lot by the advance in living of labor and while a few of the monsters have stolen and gotten rich, the movement itself has been of untold values.
