Christmas Dance At Elks Saturday Night A cocktail hour, from 9 to 10 p.m., will precede the Elks club Christmas dance, which is slated for Saturday evening, at the Elks home on North Second street. Members are invited to bring wives or guests to both the cocktail hour and dance which follows. The Keynoters orchestra will provide music for dancing, from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. Members of the December entertainment committee are urged to check in their tickets and money as soon as possible. They can do so by contacting either of the chairmen, or paving it at the Elks club. Emergency Trip For Oxygen Tent Part An emergency trip was made to Fort Wayne Wednesday night to obtain a part necessary to operate the rserve oxygen tent at the Adams County Memorial hospital, it easy learned today. Two men were in oxygen all day at hospital, and in tjie evening when the third and last remaining oxygen tent was tested, the control valve gauge was discovered to be broken. No local gauage were located which would work with the hospital equipment, so hospital manager Thurman Drew drove to Fort Wayne to obtain a valve. A reserve oxygen tent was considered necessary for stand-by in case another patient needing oxygen should be admitted during the night. Trade in a good town — Decatur
HiMlun Accident Reported To Police A hit and run accident was reported to the city police at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday*/ Ray Albert Schott. 38, told me police that a» he was a signal change at the of Monroe and Second streets; a semi-trailer made the turn and struck the automobile he was driving. Morningstar Rites Friday Afternoon Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Yager funeral home in Berne for Benjamin F. Morningstar. 97, of Berne route 2, who died Tuesday night at the Adams county memorial hospital following a heart attack. Surviving are two sons, Charles R. Morningstar of Berne route 2, and Henry D. Morningstar of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Goldie Roe of Geneva; 30 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren Clf|nd 15 grtat-great-grandchildren. Lutheran Children Rehearse Saturday Children of the Sunday school of Zion Lutheran church will hold rehearsal Saturday morning for the children’s Christmas services. The children of the junior, intermediate, and senior departments (grades 3 through 8) will rehearse at 9 o’clock; while the children of the primary, kindergarten, and nursery departments will rehearse at 10:30 a.m. The children are asked to assemble in their Sunday school class rooms, in the Zion parish hall and church parlors. Sunday school teachers and leaders will be present to direct the rehearsal. William Gemand, superintendent, announced the children of the unper classes will conduct their Christmas service Monday evening. December 23, at 7 o’clock, while the children of the’ lower departments present theirs Christmas Eve at 7 o’clock. Both programs wil be given in the Zion Lutheran church. Christmas Tree Blown Down At Court House The community Christmas tree on the court house lawn was bloWn down by comparatively heavy winds which accompanied Wednesday night's storm. The wind was strong enough to force over the tree in spite of the guy wires supporting it. Only other wind damage reported was from the city light and power department. Three poles in the northeast part of Union township near the state line were toppled by the wind. The Citizens Telephone company reported no damage of any consequence and no serious damage was reported from the south part of the county. A city light crew was dispatched this afternccn to re-erect the court house tree and repair damage done to the ornamental lights on the tree. Jury Commissioners Reappointed By Judge Ed F. Berling aad James G. Gattshall have been reappointed as jury commissioners of the Ad- j ams circuit court the 1958 term. Berling, a Democrat, and Gattshall, a Republican, are scheduled to appear in circuit court at 9 a.m. Dec. 28 to receive the court’s instructions and to accept the oath of appointment in which to quality as jury commissioners. Berling has served continuously since he was appointed in December of 1945 for the 1946 term. He replaced Albert Harlow as the Democratic commissioner. Gattshall was first appointed in December of 1954 for the 1955 term and has served every year since that time. He replaced Frank Rowley, who took over the duties from Forest Elzey because of illness in 1954. Rogers Hornsby To Coach Cub Hitters CHICAGO (W — Rogers Hornsby, seven times the National League batting champion wtih a lifetime batting average of .358, has signed as chief hitting instructor and coach with the Chicago Cubs, Vice President John Holland announced today.
