DENIES (Continued from Page One) Urges Budget Boost Sen. Henry M. Jackson IDWash.) urged that the defense budget be boosted 50 per cent to include funds for a fleet of 100 atomic submarines capable of launching ballistic missiles. “We should put our military weapons system on a wartime footing,” he said. “Otherwise, we will be destroyed.” "Hie Washington Democrat warned that Russia now has a “substantial nuinber ’ of operational intermediate range ballistic missiles (IRBM). He said this country hasn’t begun production of any IRBM’s for operational use. At Cape Canaveral. Fla., technicians began repairing the launching pad where Vanguard blew up, but there was no indication how long the operation would take. Authorities have lowered a cautious curtain over activities at the test center. Again Urges Early Christmas Mailing Reports Christmas Volume Mounting “The mounting volume of Christmas mail makes it more important than ever for everyone to mail early for Christmas,” postmaster Leo Kirsch said today. “So far this year the post office has already sold 43,000 two and three cent stamps for Christmas greeting cards, and the real heavy rush is just underway,” he added. The new post office at Holthouse on the Highway store has helped the Christmas rush some here, because working persons can obtain stamps until 9 p.m. at the sub-post-al station there, he said. The postmaster stated that every effort is being made to deliver all mail on timeiand in good condition before Christmas eve. as has been done during the past three years. Every facility of the post office is being pressed into maximum service, extra trucks and personnel have been added, and with the help of the mailing public, postal employees can look forward to spending Christmas eve and Christmas day with their families. The postmaster reports that the present flow of Christmas cards is running about the same as last year, but the mailing of gifts by parcel post is somewhat behind schedule. He suggests that all gift parcels to most distant points be sent by air parcel post from now on. He also emphasized the importance of wrapping all gifts with heavy paper and securely tying with strong cord, after they hfive been packed in sturdy corrugated cartons. “It’s especially important to write legibly, or better yet, print the recipients full name, street address, zone number, city and state, on all mailing labels, making sure to include an extra label inside your gift package." "Send all Christmas cards by first class mail, and include your name and address on the Christmas card envelopes, which is not only socially correct, but helps you and your friends to keep your mailing lists up-to-date. “If any of your Christmas card envelopes are larger than 9”x12” or smaller than 2%”x4” they can be sent only by first class mail because such cards require hand cancellation. « “If you wish to enclose your Christmas card or letter in your gil^ftac, kage u merely addJ£e appropriate letter postage to the package itself and indicate the presence of a letter or Christmas card inside the package. “In conclusion, the postmasters said, “We can make it a much! merrier Christmas tor everybody if you will just follow these three simple rules: Wrap your Christmas gifts securely — address your gifts and cards correctly—and mail them now.” GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK. Wyo. — 'IP — More than 800 students from 40 states and the | District of Columbia held summer jobs here as dishwashers, maids,,, busboys, bellmen, waitresses, etc. |
