One Os The Serious Problems Today Rev. J. R. Meadows The problem of including children to attend church services is a widespread one. Many parents complain, ’My child is willing to attend Sunday School, but he doesn’t like to go to church. He says he gets too tired.” AS a result, the one-time family pew is becoming more and more a thing of the past. What is the trouble? Some times it may be a lengthy service, and children are noted for their restlessness under restraint. But this can hardly be the entire reason, since the time they spend in school five days a week is considerably Does the minister preach "over

longer than a combined Sunday and church session. the heads” of the children? Does the organist drag the hymn playing, until the children can find no enthusiam in the singing? Or is the whole service poorly planned, indifferently executed, and consequently a dud failure? If so, these are things that can be remedied only by those who are responsible for the conduct of the worship. However, there is also something that parents can do. Do they speak well of their church and its services in the presence of their children, or are they merely critical? Children are quick to detect the later attitude, and it will not be long before they reflect the same frame of mind. Unless parents themselves are enthusiastic about going to church, they can hardly expect their children to be so. Parents themselves are usually the key to the problem of maintaining the family pew.
