TWO SORORITY GROUPS MEET WITH MRS. BAIR Members of the Delta Lambda and Xi Alpha Xi chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met recently at the home of Mrs. George Bair, for their November social meeting. Mrs. Carl Gattshall presided * over the meeting, at which time plans were made for the December 10 Christmas party of the two groups. Mrs. Ferris Bower was appointed chaiman of the event, and members were reminded that there will be a $1 gift exchange. Canasta was played during the social hour, and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Vernon Custer and Mrs. Bernard Pickett. Assisted by Mrs. Glenn Mauller and Mrs. Dale Death, the hostess later served refreshments. MRS. ED AHR ELECTED PRESIDENT OF CLUB Mrs. Ed Ahr was elected president of the Pythian Needle club, which met after temple Monday evening at the Moose home. Other officers elected were Mrs. Frank Crist, secretary; Mrs. Delton Passwater, vice president and Mrs. Charles Beineke, treasurer. During the business session, which wis presided over by Mrs. Ahr, plans were jpade for the Christmas dinner and 50-cent gift exchange, to be held at the Moose home December 9, at 6 p.m. ■After several games were played, Mrs. Harlan Jackson, Mrs. Adam Kunowich and Mrs. Beineke served refreshments. MRS. JAY MARKLEY IS HOSTESS TO SORORITY Mrs. Jay Markley was hostess Tuesday evening for a meeting of the Delta Theta Tau sorority, which is presently engaged in the annual Goodfellows project. Mrs. Lyle Mallonee conducted the business session, for which Mrs. Markley gave the treasurer’s report. Plans were then discussed for the sorority’s Christmas party, and members voted to purchase a $5 health bond. A report was also given on the present candy sales. Mrs. Leland Smith, chairman cf the Goodfellows project, presented an up to date progress report. after which Mrs. Kenneth Arnold reported on the Beta province convention she attended at Huntington recently. Following the business session, the hostess; served refreshments. THIRTY-FIVE PSI IOTA XIS ATTEND NOVEMBER SOCIAL Thirty-five members of the local Psi lota Xi sorority attended Tuesday evening’s November social meeting, which was held at the Youth and Community center. The Misses Ruth Wigman and Betsy Saneholty, demonstrators for the Liesure Electronics home ■ of the Indiana v Michigan Electric company of Fort Wayne, presented the program, in keeping with the theme on the evening , "Connoiseur’s Delight.” They prepared such dishes as

"jiffy black bottom pie," continental meatballs, kabobs and coffee cake. They then showed the sorority members how to bake yeast bread and “Bob” bread lo go with the kabobs. A lengthy question and answer period followed several hints given by the women, concerning roasting the Thanksgiving turkey. Later, the following women received articles made by the demonstrators: Mrs. Ferd Klenk, the pie; Mrs. Ray Lehman, kabobs and bread; Mrs. Clement Snell, kabobs and bread; Miss Carolyn Weigmann, coffee cake; Mrs. David Embler, Jr., coffee cake; Mrs. Paul Moore, loaf of bread, and Miss Alice Roth and Miss Hazel Roberts, meatballs. Mrs Ron Parrish was awarded the door prize, which was an attractive basket of fresh fruit. Gifts for the state school and the county home were turned in to Miss Rosemary Gase and Miss Roberts, co-chairmen of the mental health project. Tickets were then distributed for the annual Psi Ote Christmas dance, which this year will be held December 27. These tickets can be purchased from any Psi Ote member. DECEMBER DEPARTMENTAL MEETING TO BE MONDAY December departmental meetings of the Decatur Woman’s club will be held Monday evening, as each section observes its Christmas meeting in a different manner. Mrs. Walter J. Krick will be hostess to members of the Music department, which will meet at her home at 6:30 p.m., for a potluck supper. Women attending are asked to being a covered dish and their own table service, and the committee in charge will provide the meat. Assisting hostesses for the meeting will be Mrs. William Gass, Mrs. James B. Kitchen, Mrs Richard F. Linn and Mrs. Sephus Jackson. Members of the Dramatic department will meet at 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Gerald J. Kohne, with Mrs. Ferd Klenk, Mrs. James Bleke and Mrs. Reid Erekson serving as assisting hostesses. Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg is chairman of the program to be presented. “The Dead Sea Scrolls,” is the theme of the-.-Literature - department's meeting, which will be held at 7:30 p.m., at the home us Mrs. C. L. Langston, Miss Bertha Heller will be the assisting hostess. The program committee is composed 'of Mrs. Lowell .Harper and Mrs. R. J. Thomas. The Civic department will meet at the home of Mrs. Amos Ketchum, 949 Mercer avenue, at 7:45 p.m. Monday, for their Christmas meeting. Each member is reminded to bring a 50-cent gift for the exchange. Assisting hostesses for the evening include Mrs. Don Lutes. Mrs. Delton Passwater, Mrs. Phil Macklin, Mrs. Walter Johnson, Mrs. Clarence Smith and Mrs
George Squier. Mrs. Floyd Reed will entertain members of the Junior Women’s department, which will meet at 8 p.m. Monday. Young women of this department are reminded to bring their Christmas cards and money for the county home residents, and also the canned goods for the Goodfellows project. Mrs. Ned Knape, Miss Sunya Stucky, Miss Luanne Lehman and Miss Barbara Cole are serving on the committee for the evening. The meeting of the Arts department has been postponed one week. That group will meet at 7:30 p.m. December 9, at the home of Mrs. W. W. Cravens. Beta Sigma Phi city council members will meet at the Fairway restaurant at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, for their Christmas dinner and meeting. A meeting of the Associated Churches of Decatur is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. Members are asked to note the change in time. The Juniors of the American Legion auxiliary and their mothers will meet at the Lefeion home at 5:30 p.m. Monday, for their annual Christmas party. As there will be a carry-in supper, girls attending are asked to bring a covered dish and tneir own table service. NIPSCO Directors Declare Dividend The board of directors of Northern Indiana Public Service company declared a dividend of sl--a share on the 4*Z» per cent cumulative perferred stock; $1.12 a share on the 4ft per cent cumulative preferred stock; and $1.05 a share on the 4.22 per cent cumulative preferred stock of the company. Dean H. Mitchell, NIPSCO president, announced today. All three dividends are payable Jan. 14, 1958, to shareholders of record at the close of business Dec. 20. Open House Held At Opportunity School More than 300 persons attended the first open house of the Vera Cruz opportunity school Sunday. The function of the school was explained by Lloyd Lieurance, Wells county superintendent ofschools, the teachers and parents of the children. Several items made by the Students were on display, Mrs. Paul Baumgartner reported. The parents and officers of the school were well pleased with the interest shown.

Officers Elected By Life Insurance Co. James D. Adams, of Columbia City, was elected chairman of the board of directors of the Americai* Secutity Life Insurance Co. at a meeting of the board Tuesday afternoon at Fort Wayne. Louie Palumbo, of Auburn, was elected president, succeeding Neil Lynn. Other officers are Donald Mefford, of Auburn, secretary-treasur-er, and Miss Amaline Woodward, of Tocsin, reelected assistant sec-retary-treasurer. Reports Collision Os Two Vehicles Kenneth W. Roberts reported his car was hit at 719 W. Jefferson Tuesday morning by a vehicle operated by Kenneth Hawkins, 18. 122 N. 15th. The Hawkins car was damaged to the extent of SSO. Police are investigating. Frank Howe, of Geneva, was dismissed from the Portland hospital Tuesday.
