Lows tonight will range from the 20s north to 30 or near 30 central and south. WITHDRAW (Continued From rage One) a choice of dropping out and attending a segregated school, or remaining. This Mrs. L. C. Bates, president of the Arkansas Chapter of the NAACP, bitterly denies. Tension Still Present Under the surface, there is still plenty of tension in Little Rock. There are scattered reports of incidents between white students and the Negroes. School Officials deny some and confirm others. Principal J. W. Matthews appears annoyed because he figures he figures the Army is “leaking" information about conditions in the school ' “It will be different when the Army leaves.” he said. "Conditions have gradually improved until there is a satisfactory program going on,” school superintendent Virgil Blossom ■ said. “That is- the only .thing L am interested in.” he said. Most white students pay little attention to the Negroes. Ohe white boy said he feels that a majority of the White Students has adopted the same attitude as he: “Get rn education and get out.” * MUSIC ( Conti i> ued _froin_l’axe_ One) Heifetz. The third, now Rabinof’s, once belonged to Fritz Kreisler and is valued at $40,000. Music selections for the concert have been carefully selected. The program opens with Giuseppe TartinFs “Sonata in G Minor,” - one of the greatest compositions ever written for the violin. This ( is followed by Ludwig von Beethoven’s “Sonata in C Minor. Opus 30, No. 2, krtown also as Eroica.” The third selection features the Vardar (Bulgarian Rhapsody', Opus 16 composed by Pantscho Wladigeroff. an exciting number with a definite gypsy accent. The second part of the program will include Johanes Brahms’ last work for piano, “Rhapsody in E Flat Major,” Opus 119. No. 4: a sprightly number, “Feux d'Artifice.” by Debussy; Robert Schumanns “Traumerei,” a deeply moving composition and a universal favorite with audiences. This will be followed by Chopin’s “Scherzo in B Minor, Opus 20”; “Grand Adagio" by Glazanov; “Five Tune Cartoons,” sounds a light note consisting of a group of musical satires by Robert R. Bennett. The program will close with Paganini's “1 Palpiti, Opus 13.” UNITED STATES (Continued PageOneJ said, “we will have to win it with the weapons in hand. Time will no longer be available to marshal our ; resources." In an interview Monday night. ■ Air Force Secretary James H. Douglas declared this country has no evidence Russia could “attack ' in the near future with intercontinental ballistic missiles.” Navy Vanguard scientists plan to shoot a fully instrumenteds atellite into orbit in March. But the Army, which was ordered to back up Jie project, may attempt to launch on. in January with a Jupiter-C rocket. For the baby moon firing which ' may be made next week, the Vanguard project has already successfully tested all three’ stages of its rocket. If it goes into orbit, the launching of other test globes will be abandoned and attempt will bt made in January to put up the 26-inch instrumented sat-; ellite. Trade in a good town — Decatur*. Jurors Will Probe Gas Distribution Complaints Made On Midwest Companies WASHINGTON (UP)—A federal grand jury will begin investigating in a few days antitrust complaints , ■ against natural gas distributors | operating in the Midwest, the [Justice Department announced I Monday. Asst. Atty. Gen. Victor Hansen, head of the department’s antitrust division, said the panel will inquire into alleged restraints of trade in the production, distribution a/1 sales of natural gas, primarily in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Hansen said the impaneling of a grand jury was' authorized in Federal District Court at Milwaukee last Thursday. The jury is expected to examine the records of the Peoples Light & Gas Co. of Chicago, Northern Natural Gas Co. of Omaha, and the American Natural Gas Co. of Detroit, Hansen said. . Hansen said his division has been looking into the natural gas situation in this section for some time at the request of Wisconsin Gov. Vernon Thomson. He also indicated the antitrust division is [looking into a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. proposal for a $9,300,000 1 annual boost by the price of natural gas in northern California. The California state Board of Public Utilities is expected to rule on the request in about a month. This firm is supplied by El Paso Gas Co. of El Paso, Tex., which 'plans to raise its rates on Jan 1. The Justice Department already has pending an antitrust case against El Paso changing that the company’s recent acquisition of Pacific Northwest Pipeline Corp, of Salt Lake City, Utah, tends to create a monopoly. The government charged the purchase eliminated El Paso’s only competition in the sale of natural g?.r. in several western states. Asserts JP Law Is Improperly Drawn Oral Arguments Are Presented To Court Indianapolis an — The Indiana Supreme Court was told Mon,day a new law requiring written tests for some Justices of the peace was “not properly drawn.” Former Indiana Atty. Gen. Cleon Foust, appointed by the court to study the question, made the statement in oral arguments on the legislation sponsored by the Indiana State Bar tion. The 1957 law requires justices to pass an examination unless they are lawyers, presently serving as justices, or former justices since 1948. It delegated to the Supreme Court the duty of approving the test, and the State Association of Justices of the Peace is seeking permission to conduct the examinations. Foust said the law was improperly drawn but “I think the Legislature could impose the qualification if it was properly drawn.” Rabb Emison, Vincennes, urged the court to uphold the law because there is “a need for updating JPs.” Emison represented the bar association. Chief Justice James A. Emmert commented that the court “cannot delegate governmental powet to a rton-governmental body.” The JP group, headed by Donald Freehafer, Logansport, was represented by Frank Celarek. Fort Wayne. The bar group sponsored the law as a reform measure to curtail JP “abuses.” SENATE - (Continued from Page Ona) don B Johnson told newsmen earlier today that the nation's only real security lies in building up “a highly trained corps of engineers and scientists capable* of meeting any threat.” The Texas Democrat is chairman of the subcommittee. The senators are expected to go into secret session after the public hearings are completed.

Drop Requirements On Expense Accounts Government Drops Ruling This Year WASHINGTON (UP) — Taxpayers can ignore one line in the 1957 federal income tax forms — the one requiring itemization of expense accounts. The government dropped the requirement Monday for listing expense receipts, although the query will remain on the tax forms on line 6-A. . „„L „I'._ ■ Internal Reverrt Commissioner Rusfeell C. Hanmgton said the itemization “would place too great a burden on many taxpayers’* because it was announced so late in the. year. Harrington warned, however, that taxpayers should keep accurate records on their expense accounts for the 12 months starting Jan, 1 "so that for 1958 and later years they will be in a position Ito supply expense account -information" to the government.
