Former Grocer At Glenmore Is Dead Jacob Stilgenbauer Dies At Age of 94 Jacob William Stilgenbauer, 94, a resident of Willshire township for many years, died Tuesday at the home of a daughter. Mrs. Van Neiferd, St, Mary’s O„ following a cerebral hemorrhage. Death was sudden and occurred during his sleep. He had resided in St. Mary’s the past IS years with two daughters. He was born in Tuscawaras county. 0.. Nov. 30. 1882. a son of Jacob and Mary Kathryn Scaer-Stilgenbauer, He was married to Phoebe Margaret Klein April IS. 1888, and she preceded him in death in 1944 Mr. Stilgenbauer operated a grocery store at Glenmore. 0.. for more than 30 years, also served as postmaster for several years, and served on the school board and the election board. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church at St. Mary’s, O. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Van Neiferd are four other daughters, Mrs. Nora Miller of Lima. O . Mrs. Hilda Raber of Tucson. Ariz., Mrs. Lxiuise Ritchie of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Priscilla Lowe of St. Mary's, O.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grand-children: one brother. Opposes Limit On Local Property Tax Commission Hears Purdue Professor INDIANAPOLIS W> — T h e Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy was told Tuesmight not be a good idea to enact a law limiting local property taxes. The 1957 Legislature directed the commission to study the possibility of putting a ceiling of $2 per SIOO assessed valuation in cities and towns and $1.25 in rural areas, on the theory communities could make up the difference with other levies, perhaps a net income tax. Purdue University Prof. Howard J. Hoag, who studied property taxes for the commission, told the group the tax reduction would create other problems. Hoag said It would create a •’tendency" for local units "to be less willfang to handle their own problems, and more willing to dump their problems in the hands of the Legislature." In his report, Hoag said the plan might bring "greater and greater pressure” for state aid from the Legislature. Commission Director Robert J. Pitched said it was impossible for various state departments to agree on how much money Indiana has collected and spent at any one time.
