Commodores Sink 30 Free Throws To Down Arcola By 66-60 Score
The Decatur Commodores, taking advantage of frequent fouling by their opponents, defeated the Arcola Aces, 66-60, at the Decatur gym Wednesday night to chalk up their second victory of the young season in as many starts. For Arcola, it was the third setback without a wip. The Commodores were outscored from the field by 10 points, but marked up 30 points on a procession to the free throw line as 31 personal fouls and one technical were called on. the visitors. The Aces had their entire starting five removed from the game on fouls and played the last few seconds of the contest with only four men, as they had only nine players dressed for the varsity encounter. The first quarter was a nip and tuck affair, ending with Decatur out in front, 19-17. The Allen county team led throughout most of the period, on two different occasions by six points, but the Commodores took the lead for the first time at 12-11. Tom Meyer paced Decatur with 11 points, seven on free throws, while Danny Miller, a sharpshooting guard, dropped five field goals for the visitors. Arcola was limited to only six points in the second quarter while the Commodores picked up 16 to take what appeared to be a commanding lead of 35-23 lead at the .half. The third period was a reverse of the second, as Arcola zipped in 20 points while limiting the Commodores to 11 and the Decatur margin was only three points. 4643, as the teams entered the final eight minutes of play. Arcola evened the count at 46-46 and again at 48-48, but the Commodores built their lead back up

Don Clark To Play Saturday For Buckeyes By UNITED PRESS The word from Ohio State today was that ailing halfback Don Clark will be ready to play Saturday, a fact lowa partisans had suspected all along. Coach Woody Hayes said every one of his charges, including Clark, will be in shape for the Big Ten title clash against the Hawkeves. Clark, the Buckeyes' leading ground gainer, suffered a groin Injury last Saturday and had been considered a doubtful starter earlier this week. The Buckeyes were forced indoors by rain Wednesday. lowa announced it also will be at a near physical peak for the battle, with first string tackle Alex Karras and alternate end Don Norton both recovering from knee injuries. They are expected to see action although neither has taken part in stiff drills. Coach Forest Evashevski continued to drill the squad behind closed doors. Michigan State tapered off in drills for its game against Minnesota as Coach Duffy Daugherty held a light workout indoors due to heavy rain. Daugherty said he did not want to risk injuries and added he will start his same lineup against the Gophers Minnesota continued to plug away at defense, concentrating on defensive alignments and blocking. Tackle Frank Youso was listed as a doubtful starter due to a pulled leg muscle. Wisconsin’s Badgers worked on pass defense in apparent anticipation of a strong Illinois aerial attack Saturday. The Badgers worked outdoors despite a steady drizzle in their last rugged workout of the week. Illinois gained strength at tackle with the release from the hospital of starter Carl Johnson. The rugged lineman, who had been out with a slight concussion, is expected to be ready to play Saturday. Tackle Bruce Dollahan, hampered by a rib injury, also is expected to be ready. Quarterback Tom Haller, however, still is bothered by a pulled back muscle. Michigan halfback Jim Pace missed Wednesday s session for treatment of an old shin injury, but trainers said he will be ready to go against Indiana. The Wolverines sloshed through a rainy workout out-of-doors. concentrating against defense and signal drills. Indiana practiced indoors due to the rain, with emphasis on defen*sße alignments. and , offensive fundamentals. Coaches indicated Don Noone may start at right guard and Ted Smith at fullback, replacing fullback Ken Hubbart who is limping with a leg injury Purdue worked on offense, but the drill was bogged down in • rain muddied field. Coach Jack Mollenkopf drilled left half Ken Mikes and Tom Fletcher in punting and place kicking, respectively, and announced that junior Tom Barnett would start at right half in the wake of his good showing against Ohio State. Northwestern ran through a pass defense workout in the rain, and received the bad news that first string fullback Ed Quinn probably will be held out of the game against Purdue with a broken toe. Coach Ara Parseghian indicated either Sam Johnson or Jim Knowles will replace Quinn. The rain also slowed Notre Dame's workout and Coach Terry
Brennan curtailed offensive drills to concentrate on defending Oklahoma plays.
