Booster Club Holds Banquet Last Night High school sports such as football and basketball provide an outlet . for surplus energy and provide a wholesome activity for leisure time, Joe Dienbart, Purdue university assistant athletic director, told more than 100 persons at the Booster club banquet at the Moose home Monday night. Dienhart ' also mentioned that when M. F. Worthman was superintendent of schools here, and Herb Curtis was basketball coach, Dienhart was almost hired as Decatur’s football coach, but he took instead the job at Cathedral high School in Indianapolis. Dienhart told the 2ft football letter winners who were the guests of the 110 members of the Booster club that the reception of the fundamentals was tiring, but it led to the skills and thrills of the game itself. The coach, Dienhart pointed out, "represents your dad when he is helping teach you the fundamentals of the game, and is only trying to develop you into a good, player and a good citizen. “The .player owes everything to the school,” Dienhart continued, "rather than the school owing the player. It is the school, that through its leaders and teachers, does everything in its power to make you a better player, citizen, and person, and it is you that owe it for what you receive.” Dienhart then showed pictures of the Michigan State-Purdue game this year, which Purdue won, 2013. Hie Purdue assistant director explained that he was especially pleased with this game because he had scouted Michigan State for the football team.

Report Pheasants Scarce In County Pheasants were hard to find in Adams county on opening day, conservation officer Jack Hurst reported. Hurst had checked 40 pheasant hunters by noon, but had found only three with birds. Much corn is still standing in the fields, making it almost impossible to flush the birds. Rabbits were more plentiful, fiunters were warned to use care in hunting, and were advised to hunt singley or in small groups. Also, two deaths in other parts of the state on opening day were caused by hunters who tried to club the game with the butts of their shotgun stocks. The guns discharged, killing the hunters. Willig, assistant director of the Purdue center in Fort Wayne, and director of the fair, said today. Science projects from senior and junior high schools in Adams coupty, as well as Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, and Whitley, are eligible.
