Nixon’s neighborhaad has a covenant against admitting Negroes and Jews. State Rep. A. A. Fowler Jr., one of three charter members of the Resettlement Fondation,” said "it’s a shame the vice president would be a party” t" such an agreement. Fowler denied the first scheduler relocation of a Negro famil ywould be in Nixon’s neighborhood in suburban Washington, but he and Alan Kimper and Roy V. Harris, the two other members, agreed it would have been an “ideal” location. “Os course we would be interested in considering property in Mr. Nixon’s neighborhood for re> locating Negroes and I am sure he would not object, for his stand against segregation is too we! known,” Fowler said. "Due to a restrictive covenant which Mr. Nixon and his neighbors, I understand, have on their property prohibiting the sale, resale and use of the property by Negroes and Jews, I am sure that they would not sell to our foundation,” he said. Washington real estate men disagreed over whether such a covenant exists, A spokesman for W. S. and A. N. Miller, developers of the Wesley Heights section, said it originally was covered by a covenant forbidding sale to Negroes or Jews. But a spokesman for Shannon & Luchs, which handles homes in the area, said the original covenant "expired some time ago.” A third real estate man said the covenant was still in effect and would remain so until changed by a majority vote of the people living in the area. Coming Attractions At Adams Theater “Bambi.” Walt Disney's delightful story beloved by young and old is the feature attraction at the Adams Theater Sunday and Monday only. Due to prior bookings the picture is scheduled for two days only. A full length production entirely hand drawn by world famous cartoonists, “Bambi” has been photographed in Techincolor with a beautiful musical score, and is laugh-packed from statt to finish. Coming to the Adams next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is the year’s most controversial picture, “A Hatful of Rain,” based on a subject formerly taboo on the theater screens — that of narcotic addition. Don Murray is>,£een as the ex-G.I. whose war wounds start him taking dope. Eva Marie Saint, academy award winner, and Lloyd Nolan are also important members of the cast of this powerful story. WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — IP) L_ Mr. and Mrs. S. Irving Lippman were so engrossed in a television show that they failed to hear a burglar slip into the house and escape with $3,500 in cash and jewels. Per Capita Giving In Churches Higher Average Protestant Pays $56.74 Yearly By LOUIS CASSELS United Press Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON (UP)—The average American Protestant gives $56.74 a year to his church, the National Council of Churches ' reported today. This is the highest per capita giving figure ever recorded by the council. It represents an increase of about 7 per cent over last year’s figure of $52.88. Each year, in November, the council compiles the latest available statistics on contributions to American religious denominations. The Roman Catholic church and Jewish bodies do not publish official figures on contributions, and are not included in the compilation. Reports from 52 Protestant bodies this year showed total contributions of $2,041,908,161, an alltime record. Most of this money —Bl per cent—was used for local congregational expenses, such as paying the minister's salary, enlarging or maintaining the church building, buying hymnals, etc. Only 19 per cent was earmarked for foreign and home missions, relief projects and other benevolences. Per capita giving was calculated by dividing the total contributions by the number of church members over the age of 13. Adventists Still High As usual, the Seventh Day Adveptists were way out in front with an average contribution of $202.02 per member. Close behind were several small fundamentalist bodies which, like thd Adventists, place heavy stress on tithing: The Wesleyan Methodist Church ($197.43); < the Evangelical Free Church ($165); the Pilgrim Holiness Church ($161.70); and the Ohio Yearly Meeting of Friends ($142.08). None of the larger Protestant bodies came close to these figures. The highest per member contributions among the major denominations were recorded by the Southern Presbyterians and the Reformed Church, which tied at $88.56. Per member giving by other major Protestant denominations: Missouri Synod Lutherans SBO.BB. Presbyterian USA (Northern) $72.03, Congregational Christian 65.18. United Lutheran $58.46, Evangelical Lutheran $56.47, Protestant Episcopal $52.79, Southern Baptists $48.17, Methodist Church $43.82, American (Northern) Baptists $37.18, Disciples of Christ $37.14. Precise Figures Unknown No precise statement can be’ made about the proportion of his income which the average Protestant gives to his church. Per capita personal income of Americans was $1,935 last year. But children under 13 are counted in

and Jewish contributions, these reports are little more than guesses. The usual procedure is to increase the National Council’s total for Protestant churches by about 70 to 75 per cent, on the assumption that the extra amount will cover Catholic and Jewish giving.
ZHUKOV «>n tinned from Page One) Zhukov’s stature was “sidetracked’* to Albania at a time when the Soviets were sabre-rattling in the Middle East and talking about war. This prompted the idea that the Kremlin high command wanted to keep Zhukov out of Moscow until they nailed down the case against him. PREILOUS (Oontinuad from Page One) didn’t have enough gas to go around again.** Thomas said the weather conditions forecast when he took off from McMurdo for Byrd Station was for light brief storms in the McMurdo area. He said that when he arrived over McMurdo, the turbulence was so strong that one updraft hurled the 90-ton plane from 7,000 feet to 10,000 feet “like a feather.’’ Cmdr. John Mirabito, the station’s top weatherman said “this one sneaked up on us from a blind spot between Little America and McMurdo—it was most unusual.’’ He added: “I feel like a man who got a girl in trouble.” CONVICTED from Page Ona) hearing, and a Lake County grand jury returned no indictments because it said the deals in question were consummated at Indianapolis, outside its jurisdiction. Juror Goes Home 11l ... Mrs. Knauer’s collaspe on the sidewalk near a restaurant, where the jury ate dinner after studying the evidence for a time, created a tense situation. A doctor recommended hospitalization, but Mrs. Knauer insisted on going hooe. Judge Walter Pritchard ordered Harold Kolsky, the only alternate juror selected to hear the evidence, to take Mrs. Knauer’s place. Then defense and state’s attorneys were notified while they were at dinner. Defense attorneys promptly returned to court and demanded a mistrial on grounds that Pritchard had no right to assign Kolsky as a juror without notifying the defendants. Pritchard overruled the motions, but defense attorneys appeared to feel that the incident gave them grounds for an appeal on a legal technicality. The jury received the case after hours of final arguments by Prosecutor Tinder, Deputy Prosecutor Robert Orbison and a battery of defense attorneys, one for each of the defendants.
“Dirtiest, Meanest Crime” Tinder demanded conviction of all four ip "the dirtiest, meanest crime oF money conspiracy ever exposed in this state." He called Smith "the money-mad mogul from Milan...the evil genius who thought out this conspiracy.”. He called all four men "crooks” and said they hatched a scheme when they saw “eight million dollars a year” sifting through the highway department “and there wasn’t enought of it sticking to their hands.” Other state’s attorneys assailed Peak for "using the name of his aged mother and father a s pawns” in a shady deal and Teverbaugh for “using his grandson's good name and make him look like a crook.” Defense attorneys urged the jury not to let publicity and public emotionalism sweep the defendants into prison, where, as “political prisoners,” they probably would have to serve maximum terms. Attorney Arthur Payne said the jury should ignore “the greatest barrage of publicity” since the murder trial in 1925 of Ku Klux Klan grand dragon D. C. Stephenson.
