Reveal Documents Os Czarist Police Two-Ton Hoard Os Documents Revealed STANFORD. Calif. (IB — Excited researchers pored today over a hoard of czarist secret police documents whose existence has been a secrej ■ for more than 30 years. The two-ton hoard of documents represents the Paris office file of the Okhrana, as the old imperial Russian secret police was known. The Okhrana was set up in 1883 and was closed in 1917 with the downfall of the czarist government. During its lifetime, it kept tabs on Russian revolutionarist in Western Europe. The Hoover institution on the Stanford University campus dramatically disclosed the whereabouts of the file Tuesday. It was shipped to this country in 1926 in 16 sealed packing cases, bound with wire and lead seals. C. Easton Rothwell, director of the institution, said it is the ‘‘largest Russian police archive outside the Soviet Union.” The Reds thought the files had been destroyed. It will come as a surprise to them that they are in California awaiting study by scholars, historians and others. “Already we have found files of Trotsky, Molotov and Pilsudski,” said Witold Sworakowski, assistant director of the institute. “I have no doubt that we shall find material on Lenin, Stalin and other leading men of the revolution.” Sworakowski said ' the file Will “unquestionably prove to be a mother lode of knowledge of the crucial years leading to the overthrow of the Romanovs in March, 1917.” Treated Wheat Sale Unlawful Practice It has been reported to the county extension office that some farmers have tried to sell treated wheat to local elevators. County agent Leo N. Seltenright reports that this is an unlawful practice according to present seed laws. The law states as follows: “Treated seeds must be properly labeled; Under., the new Indiana seed law of 1957, it is unlawful to grain or other seed which has been treated as defined under the act, to any person for any purpose unless the grain or seed is clearly labeled as required in sections 4 and 5 of this act. “Violations shall be considered a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine not to exceed SIOO for the first offense and not over $250 for each subsequent offense. For your protection. and as a warning to your customers, it might be well to post a sign to this effect. This covers all seed and grain ‘treated with mercurial and siiniliarly toxic substances harmful to humans and animals.” SECRETARY (Continued from Page One) three to be chosen by common agreement between the two dis? puting countries. HALLOWEEN (Continued from Page One) the annual fall festival at the Decatur high school gym, to be sponsored by the Northwest and Lincoln school parent-teacher associations. The public is invited to attend the festival which will feature entertainment for adults as well as children. ' LEADERS (Continued from Page One) ing that other heads of the NATO nations accept the council invitation, he also intends to accept. His acceptance was possible, he explained, because the NATO meeting would come after his White House conference with the bi-partisan con g res s ion a 1 leadership now arranged for early December. Tile President said he learned from his conference of American presidents in Panama last year that much could be accomplished in awakening the people of the United States, as well as the public in other countries, to common problems of mutual interest. He approached the NATO meeting with the same aim and said he hopes his presence there would help stimulate United States interest in the operations of NATO. TESTIMONY (Continued from Page One) apology was an admission that he lied when detectives questioned him shortly after the scandal broke last April 12. 'zzz The prosecutor asked Teverbaugh on the stand why he told detectives that “Burton" was an adult whom he met and why he denied at the time making any back lot purchases. Teverbaugh said he wanted to “apologize'’ if he made any “misrepresentations’’ when questioned by detectives and newsmen. He blamed his earlier statements on the excitement Os a barrage of questions without knowing what all the trouble was about. “I didn't know what I was talking about,” Teverbaugh said. Under persistent questioning by Tinder, Teverbaugh said he could not remember many details of the transactions. He said he could not recall, either, exactly how he happened to turn the ‘'Burton’’ deeds over to Smith. Tinder showed Teverbaugh three documents involved in the state’s $25,800 purchase—each sjgqed by Teverbaugh. But the Witness claimed he signed them without realizing they involved the same lots he bought for his grandsop for $23,300 lesS. Can’t Resell Teverbaugh told the jury he could not recall Whether Smith asked to buy, or he offered to sell, the deeds. But he said Mr. Smith wanted them so he got them?’ He said he used the $3,000 Smith gave him to repair his house and buy cattle for his farm. At first he said the money was not reported for taxes, then said he could not remember if it was. “Obviously,” Tinder told newsmen, “Mr. Smith paid his way into the conspiracy.” He accused Teverbaugh of remembering “only those things that would make his transaction appear in the light he wanted to.” Teverbaugh’s attorney, David Lewis, said his client’s testimony would help'his case. “I think the jury will believe him,” Lewis said. KHRUHCHEV (Conll n uMI from Page On e was alert to the possibility that stiffened and more provocative external policies might be adopted to screen domestic troubles. Khrushchev promised Zhukov a new job in his remarks during the Turkish reception but he still did not throw any light on whether Zhukov would retain his high party post as member of the Presidium. Khrushchev said only Zhukov would be given a new job in line with his “experience and qualifications.” ” „ " . Official party spokesmen said almost the same thing of Vyacheslav M. Molotov, George Malenkov, Dmitri Shepilov and Lazar Kaganovitch when they were dismissed from their high posts for “antiparty” activities earlier this year. *- - ■
