INITIAL WOMAN’S CLUB MEETING TO BE MONDAY The formal opening and initial meeting of the Decatur Woman's elub will be observed Monday, with a dinner to be served at the Youth and Community center, at 6:30 p.m. Members of the club's executive committee are in charge of arrangements for the affair. A varied program will be presented by the American Association of. University Women, of Fort Wayne. Included will be choral numbers, several selections by a quartet, piano solos, and the recitation of original poetry by one of the members of the Fort Wayne organization. D.A.V. met recently at the D.A.V. hall for a regular meeting. Mrs. Lucille Watkins was welcomed into the auxiliary as its newest member. Plans were completed for a Halloween party to be held October 25, after which Mrs. Lloyd Spiegel had charge of the social hour. Prizes were, awarded to Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Ted Eyanson and Mrs. Harold Hitchcock. Typical Halloween refreshments were served later in the evening. A meeting of the D.A.V. Junior auxiliary was also conducted last week. Because of illness of many of the members, election of officers, slated for that evening, has been postponed until November 4. Several games and contests were participated in, after which Mrs. Stuckey and daughters Rox Ann and Marlene entertained the members at a "Coke” party. CHURCH MOTHER’S CLUB HAS OCTOBER MEETING The October business meeting of the Church Mothers study club was held recently in the Methodist church lounge. Mrs. Doyle Collier opened the meeting, followed by roll call and the secretary and treasurer’s reports. Members were reminded that the November business meeting will be held at the Doyle Collier residence. The club’J program books state otherwise. Mrs. Ray Walther presented an article ‘Citizenship Begins in the Cradle,” taken from the "Christian Home.” Mrs. Clint Reed reviewed “Their Future Is In the Hands,” from the "Parent's” magazine. Repeating of the club prayer closed the meeting. Hostesses were Mrs. Lowell Smith, Mrs. Myles Parrish and Mrs. Collier. MRS. RALPH E. ROOP PRESENTS CLUB LESSON "Migration of the Birds,” was the title of the lesson Mrs. Ralph E. Roop presented to the members of the Rose Garden club, who met recently at the public library for their regular October business meeting. Mrs. Frank Crist, club prsident, presided during the meeting,
MR. AND MRS. GRANT VOSHELL, of 204 Stratton Way, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Janice Elaine, to Luther Schrock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Schrock, of 632 South Thirteenth street. Miss Voshell is a senior at Decatur high school, and a part time employe of the Citizens Telephone company. Following several committee reports, Mrs. Roop yresented her informative lesson. Members were reminded of the district convention to be held at the Bluffton reserve November 7, and that reservations must be in to Mrs. Crist no later than October 26. A $2 donation was voted to the United fund. Mrs. Floyd Arnold was in charge of the entertainment, with Mrs. Wilson Mann winning the prize. Refreshments were then served by Mrs. Wilbur Stanley and Mrs. Fereman Walters, assisted by Mrs. Walters’ daughters, Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Mann. CLUB MEMBERS ATTEND MASQUERADE PARTY Members of the Profit and Pleasure home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Sanders for a masquerade party. All of the club members came dressed in typical Halloween attire, depicting ghosts and goblins, and hobos and comic charcters. * Mrs. Ralph Bluhm, Mrs. Harvey Smith, Mrs. Clarence Dick and Mrs. Louis Mattax came dressed as member of a humorous bridal party. member’s identity was guessed, the above four women participated in a mock "shotgun wedding ceremany,” for the special feature of the month. The business session included the salute to the flag, the club creed and the collect. Mrs. John Arnold gave the history of “Indiana, Our Indiana,” which was the song of the month, and then led the group in singing it together. Minutes of the last meetirfg were read, after which roll call was answered by members telling what they had garnered for winter use. Devotions, taken from the “Upper Room,” were given by Mrs. Tom Johnson. Several members were then appointed to take acre of arrangements for achievement day. and all of the members pired off for their donations. Later three "Halloweeners” appeared at the Sanders door, two dressed as ghosts and one as an Indian soldier. Each of them bore corn and skeltons and other Halloween props, but were able get away'without divulging their identity. Mrs. Clifford Landis assisted the hostess in serving refreshments to the 13 members, two guests, Mrs. Homer Landis and Mrs. Louise Mattax, and three children who attended the party. The door prize was won by Mrs. Clarence Dick. Mrs. Herman Dierkes will be hostess to the Ladies auxiliary of the Decatur fire department, Monday evening at 8 o'clock.
James L. Arnold, 17-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Arnold of route 4, has been admitted to the Clinic at Bluffton for treatment. Lawrence E. Rash was fined a total of $16.50 in justice of the peace court in Bluffton for parking on the North Main street bridge in that city during the street fair. The music department of he Wren, 0., high school will presen a concert of sacred music at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Wren Evangelical | United Brethren church. School at Bryant closed again j Wednesday when 36 percent, or 131 ■ students, failed to attend classes because of respiratory diseases. Mrs. T. C. Smith, who has been a patient at the Adams county memorial hospital for the past few days, underwent surgery there Wednesday. She is in room 309. Mrs. Robert. Mrs. Russell Fleming will be hostess for an all day meeting of the Root Township home demonstration club, next Tuesday, beginning at 11 a.m. Officers will be elected to serve the' club during the next year. A meeting of the Rosary society is slated for 8 p.m. Monday at the K. of C. hall. The annual ham dinner sponsored by the St. Rose Catholic qhurch of Monroeville will be held this Sunday in the school basement. Serving will be from 11 a.ip. to 3:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Members of the D. A. V. and its auxiliary will meet in a joint session at the D. A. V. hall, Monday at 8 p.m.
