MISS KIRSCH RECITES VOWS IN OREGON RECENTLY Mr. and Mrs. Leo W. Kirsch, of route 1, have announced the recent marriage of their youngest daughter, Nancy, to Dan E. Chandler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Chandler of Haines, Ore. The wedding was performed in the Methodist church chapel in Bend. Ore., with Mr. and Mrs. Dan R. Kirsch, brother and sister-in-law of the bride, as the only attendants. A graduate of Monmouth high school and the Ball State school of nursing in Muncie, Mrs. Chandler was employed at the Hemingway clinic at Bend, Ore., • until the time of her marriage. Her husband is a senior agriculture major at Oregon State, at Carvalis, Ore., where he will graduate next June. The couple js making their home in Dalles, Ore., where Chandler is doing practice teaching in vocational agriculaure. MISR NANCY ANN PARRISH IS MARRIED SATURDAY The marriage of Miss Nancy Ann Parish, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Parrish, of route 6. to Theodore William Pyles was solemnized at 2 p.m. last Saturday, in the Monroe Methodist church. Altar bouquets of mums and gladioli, palms and candelabra formed the setting for the doublering ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Willis Giehr hart, Mr. and Mrs. Phealty E. Pyles, of Victoria. 111., are parents of the bridegroom. Mrs. Elmer Ehrsam was organist. and Mrs. Richard Everett, art aunt of the bride, was soloist for the musicale that was presented prior to the ceremony. Selections by Mrs. Ehrsam included “Indian Love Call,” "Clair deLune,” “I Love You Truly,” and “Sincerely.” Mrs. Everett sang “Because.” "O Promise Me,” and as the cPuple knelt at the altar, “Saviour Like a Shepherd Lead Us.” Given in marriage by her father, the bride appeared in a gown of hand-clipped chanilly lace and tulle over bridal satin. A pleated portrait neckline accented the fitted bodice, which had short sleeves, and closed down the back with tiny covered buttons. Her bouffant floor length skirt of tulle was designed with a full lace peplum, falling to points on both sides. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion showered from a half pillbox of lace trimmed with sequins, and she carried an arm bouquet of red roses, centered with a white orchid. Mrs. Kenneth Doyle Parrish served her sister-in-law as matron of honor, and Miss Edna Pyles, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. Both wore gowns of white printed nylon over taffeta, styled with wide violet colored cummerbends, forming large bows in the back. They wore headbands of violet net over taffeta, and completed their outfits with matching colored mits. Their flowers were powder puff bouquets of yellow

roses. Flower girl was little Miss Deborah Everett, cousin of the bride. She was attired in a floor length gown of violet net over taffeta, styled like the other attendants. Her flower basket was filled with yellow and violet colored asters. Serving as best man was Kenneth Doyle Parrish, brother of the bride. Ernest Peden, of Portland, fraternity brother of the bridegroom; Harold Griffith, Galesburg, 111., cousin of the bridegroom, and John Paul McAhren and Fred Mann; cousins of the bride, seated the guests. The bride’s mother chose to wear a grey tweed suit, with black accessories, while the bridegroom's mother chose to wear a printed silk dress, with white accessories. Both had corsages of red roses. The bride’s maternal grandmother wore a printed voile dress with black accessories, and had a corsage of pink carnations. Serving at the reception, which was held in the church annex immediately after the ceremony were Miss Carolyn King, Mrs. Allen Girod, and Miss Leia Pyles, sister of the bridegroom. The bride’s table was centered with a four-tiered wedding cake, flanked on either side by lighted candles and arrangements of mums. For traveling, Mrs. Pyles changed into a black knit suit, with which she wore white accessories and the orchid from her bridal bouquet. Upon their return, the couple will reside on route 6. A graduate of Adams Central high school, the bride attended International Business college in Fort Wayne, and is presently employed at the Lincoln Life Insurance Co. Her husband is employed as a junior correspondent with the same firm, having graduated from high school in Knoville, 111., and later Tri State college at Angola. BAKE SALE IS PLANNED BY JOLLY HOUSEWIVES CLUB A bake sale will be conducted at the Western Auto store starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, sponsored by the Jolly Housewives home demonstration club, which met recently at the Pleasant Mills school to make plans for the event. Articles for the sale will by picked up at the Riley Market in Bobo, the R. H. Everett store in Pleasant Mills, or at the homes of Mrs. John Davision, Mrs. Kenneth Ohler or Mrs. Marshall Hilpert. Mrs. Carl Frey, club president, conducted the business session held at the beginning of the meeting. Members repeated the club creed, after which Mrs. John Bailey read the 23rd Psalm for devotions. Thirty members answered roll call by telling of a school problem, past or present, followed by the presentation of the history of the song of the month, “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean,” by Mrs. Paul Rich. The safety lesson was given by Mrs. Clarence Black. . Doors prizes were awarded to Mrs. Harry McDermott and Mrs. Black, and later refreshments were served to the 'members and one guest, Mrs. Fred Bauman, by Mrs. John Bailey. Mrs Will Evans and Mrs. Elmer Goliff. CHURCH MOTHERS STUDY CLUB'S MEETINGS BEGIN Members of the Church Mothers Study club met at the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church recently, as they opened their fall meetings with the observance of “guest night.” After Mrs. Myles Parrish, club president, introduced the members and their guests, a carry-in supper was served from tables attract* ively decorated with arrangements of fall flowers, with individual acorns as favors.
The regular meeting was opened with devotions, led by Mrs. Benjamin Thomas. It was decided
by the group that each member wilf make the article which she gives during the Chrismas gift exchange. - z Mrs. Wesley Lehman presented a portion of the lesson, taken from the “Parents” magazine, and Mrs. LaDoyt Miller continued, using articles from the “Christian Home.” Chairman of the committee in charge of the meeting was Mrs. William Journay, who was assisted by Mrs. Karl Johnson, Mrs. Harlen Jackson and Mrs. Arthur Beeler. At the next meeting, scheduled for October 15, the local club will entertain the members of the Berae Mothers club, MRS. LLOYD BOWMAN IS HOSTESS TO HOME EC CLUB Mrs. Lloyd Bowman was recently hostess for a meeting of the Root township home economics club, which was opened by the club president, Mrs. Harold Owens, who led the group in repeating the club creed. Mrs. Leo King read an article entitled “Life’s Little Interruptions,” followed by roll call, which was answered by 29 members naming a school problem, past or present. Following the lesson on “memofiause," presented by Mrs. Robert Carr and Mrs. King, the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were submitted by Mrs. Nevin Miller and Mrs. Norbert Aumann, respectively. Mrs. Bowman gave the citizenship lesson. The history of the song of the month, "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean,” was given by Mrs. Ralph Rice. Special feature of the meeting was the surprise birthday party given for Mrs. Ed Christen, who is the oldest member of the home economics club. Mrs. Christen received many gifts from the club members, after which the meeting was closed by repeating the club collect. Refreshments were later served to the members, and one child and two guests. Mrs. Ke'nneth Ohler and Mrs. Hugh Nidlinger, Mrs. Bowman was assisted by Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Christen. WOMEN OF THE MOOSE HAVE INITTTION Women of the Moose met at the Moose home Thursday evening, and conducted initiation ceremonies for one new member. Ritual practice followed. Members* were reminded of the star reporter’s day, which will be held at Bluffton Sunday, at 1 p.m. Refreshments were later served by Mrs. Ray Venis and Mrs. Bill Judt, and the door prize was awarded to Mrs. Ernest Worthman. CHURCH CIRCLE MEETS AT RUFUS KIRCHHOFER HOME The Ruth and Naomi circle of the Zion-Evangelical and Reformed church met Wednesday noon at the country home of Mrs. Rufus Kirchhofer, for their annual September carry-in dinner. A chicken dinner was served at noon to the 15 members and sirs guests attending. Mrs. Tony Meyer, leader for the afternoon, opened the meeting with the song “O Zion Haste,” after which she read scripture and led in prayer. She then presented the lesson topic, reviewing the book, “Mission in the U.S.A.” “Nearer to the Heart of God,” was the title of the piano — vocal duet presented by the Rev. and Mrs. William C. Feller. All of the circle officers were reelected to serve two more years, during the business session conducted by Mrs. Meyer. Officers will again by chairman, Mrs. Meyer, vice-chairman, Mrs. Floyd Shoaf, and secretary and treasurer, Mrs. James Baker. Mrs. Meyer led in the closing prayer. Mrs. Charles Beineke will be the leader at the next circle meeting, to be held at the church October 23. 1 X PREBLE SUNNY CIRCLE ELECTS NEW OFFICERS Election of officers was the main topic of business at the recent meeting of the Preble Sunny Circle home demonstration club, held at the Preble recreation center Repeating of the club creed opened the meeting, after which the members joined in singing the song of the month, “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.” After the secetary’s and treasurer’s reports were given, club members observing birthdays during the month of September were honored. Mrs. Truman Goldner presented the citizenship lesson on civil rights, followed by roll call, answered by naming a school problem, past or present. The health lesson was given by Mrs. Orley Barkley. Officers elected to serve the club were president, Mrs. Edwin Buuck; vice-president, Mrs. Walter Hildebrandt; secretary, Mrs. A. A. Fenner; treasurer, Mrs. Elmer Peters, and alternate leaders, Mrs. Robert Clark and Mrs. Arthur Bauermeister. Members grilled their own steaks and potatoes on an outdoor grill, as part of the month’s lesson. “Outdoor Cookery.” The meeting closed with devotions by Mrs. John Borne, and the women repeating the club collect. The city council of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the home of Mrs. Ferris Bower.

Mrs. Henry Neireiter, of Four Acres, is a patient at the Adams county memorial hospital, where she was rushed early Thursday afternoon, after suffering a stroke while working in the yard of her home. Melvin Thieme, son, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin H. Thieme of 227 North Third street, is visiting here with his wife and .two children. The Thiemes now reside at Los Alamos, N. M., where the former Decatur man is associated with atomic development work in the University of California laboratories. Thieme was graduated from Decatur high school in 1944 and then from Purdue University, where he received his master’s and doctor’s degrees in nuclear physics. They will leave Decatur Monday. Blufftori Newspaper Observes Anniversary Bluffon celebrated 65 years of daily newspaper operation Thursday. The Bluffton Evening News was founded Sept. 26, 1892. The Bluffton Evening Banner was founded in 1899. and then two papers combined into the present News-Banner in 1929.
