Acreage Reserve Penalties Cited Soil Bonk Reserve Penalties Outlined Any time a farmer harvests too large an acreage of a “basic” crop covered by a soil bank acreage agreement—such as wheat or com, he not only loses his acreage reserve payment but also is subject to a civil penalty, Oscar T. Brown, chairman of the Adams county agricultural stabilization and conservation committee, said today. Commenting on the recent modification of the 1958 acreage reserve program’s penalty provisions, the chairman declared: “Farmers should be very sur® that they understand the provisions of the acreage reserve program regarding violations. We are most anxious that there be no confusion resulting from the recent modification of the 1958 program’s penatty provision regarding ‘permitted ac* reage’.” * t The soil bank base for a farm is in general the average acreage of soil bank base crops harvested on the farm during the past two years. Soil bank base crops include the basics, such as wheat and com and cotton, and generally all crops produced on the farm except hay and pasture. If the farmer harvests more of the acreage reserve crop than his crop allotment less the crop land in the acreage reserve, the farmer is .subjet to both loss of his payment and a civil penalty of 50 percent of the payment. The civil penalty also applies to such program violations as grazing or harvesting a -crop from land designated under an acreage reserve agreement. Wheat growers interested in acreage reserve are are urged to furnish without delay all information, including their farm’s production history for 1956 and 1957, necessary for the county ASC committee to establish a soil bank base for the farm. This base must be determined before a 1958 winter wheat acreage reserve agreement may be signed.

Zippy Onion Gravy 1 package (1 1/2 ounces) onion soup mix ■L.” 2 1/2 eups boiling water 2 teaspoons lemon juice . 2 to 3 table- ——Lb—spoons flour 1/2 cup cold water Add soup mix to boiling water. Stir in lemon juice. Cover and cook ten minutes. Mix flour and cold water. Gradually stir into hot mixture. '• Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Yield: About 3 cups gravy. This gravy is delicious served over hot mashed potatoes or meat. Servo it French Stylo Serve the mix as a soup Frenchstyle. All you have to do is toast French bread slices on one aide. STurn, spread with softened butter or margarine and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Place under the broiler and broil until crusty brown. Float on soup. To garnish, sprinkle soup with parsley flakes.
