“BACK TO SCHOOL” THEME FEATURED AT MEETING A“back to school” theme was featured akthe recent meeting of the Academy of Friendship, which opened the club year. Small tables and chairs served as desks for the "pupils.” The chairman led the group In repeating the club collect, which was followed by roll call and the minutes of the previous meeting. Members were reminded that their hostess fee is due to the secretary at once. Money making plans for the year were discussed, and the session was closed with benediction. Several games were played during the social hour which followed, and appropriate prizes were awarded to the winners. Lunch was served school style, and consisted of crackers and cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, and olives, all neatly wrapped in a large napkin. Pencils were the individual favors. Later, the hostesses served the dessert, hot nut rolls with whipped cream. BETA SIGMA PHIS HAVE JOINT SESSION Epsilon Sigma and Xi Alpha’ lota examplar • chapters of Beta Sigma Phi held their regular monthly business meetings at the Elks home Wednesday evening. Members of the Epsilon Sigma chapter submitted names of rushees and made plans for the annual rush party, during the business meeting that was conducted by president, Mrs. William Schulte. The ways and means committee of the examplar chapter, which met separately from the Epsilon chapter, announced that the chapter will be selling candy throughout the yeat as a money making project. A final report was also submitted concerning the bake sale held last Saturday. Following the closing of the two business sessions, the sorority members met jointly for their cultural lesson, this month entitled "Grooming,” and "Clothing for Madame.”

Max Morris, noted hair stylist of Fort Wayne, presented an interesting demonstration on hair styling, using as models Mrs. Norma Agler and Mrs. Robert O’Shaughnessy. He cut, styled and set the women’s hair, in becoming styles, and then conducted a brief question and answer period. . ~ October 9 is the date of the sorority rush party, which will also be the next meeting of both chapters. EITING ACRES FAMILIES HAVE ANNUAL GET-TOGETHER The second annual get-together of families living in Eiting Acres was held Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eiting, with Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Irwin assist’"Mr. and Mrs. Homer Arnold, who are planning to build in the addition in the near future, were special guests at the session. Following the carry-in supper, the group decided that Mr. and Mrs. Harold Myers and Mr. and Mrs. Lase Grimm will have charge of the next meeting. Alfred and Leonora Rebber Scheumann, of route 1, Hoagland, are parents of a daughter, born at 8:32 a.m. today. The infant weighed eight pounds, nine ounces at birth. Newest Television Station Will Launch Operation Saturday WPTA, Indiana’s newest television station and the third television facility in Fort Wayne will begin operations Saturday with an inaugural telecast at 7 p.m. WPTA is owned by Sharkes Tarzian, Bloomington electronics manufacturer. Studio and offices are housed in a new building located on the Butler Road, northwest of Fort Wayne. The new station is affiliated with the American Broadcasting company television network and "Will operate on UHF channel 21. Included in WPTA’s program line-up will be many new and favorite shows such as “Disneyland,” "Cheyenne,” ‘Lawrence Welk,” "Mickey Mouse Club,” "Wyatt Earp,” "Frank Siniatra,” "Pat Boone,” “Mike Wallace,” and "Guy Mitchell.” Miss Nancy Ann Mies Enters Barry College Miss Nancy Ann Mies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mies, of 431 Sunset Lane, has entered her freshman year at Barry College for Women, at Miami, Fla. A 1957 graduate of Decatur Catholic high school, Miss Mies plans to major in medical technology. While at Barry, her address will be Miss Nancy Mies. Box 100. Annual Sunday School Parade Here Saturday The annual Sunday school parade of the Associated Churches of Decatur will start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Robert Flora, president of the Associated Churches, said today. The parade will start on First street at the jail, and James Strickler will be in charge of lining up the group there. They will parade down Second stree* under the supervision of the police and fire departments, and the narade will end near the Standard Market on North Second Street. There will be 12 or 13 churches represented, Flora said, and many floats and marching units. The Associated Churches of Decatur consists of a pastor and layman from each church and a representative from the council of church women. Alfred Klingenberqer Is Taken By Death Alfred Klingenberger, 67, former Fort Wayne policeman, died Tuesday night at his home in Orlando, Fla. Surviving are two daughters, Clara Ellen and Evelyn of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Kaye Gladieux of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Verna Tegeder of Waynedale, and two brothers, Walter F. of Dallas. Tex., and Henry F. of Detroit. Mich. Funeral services and burial were held at Orlando this afternoon. ■ Mrs. Carl H. Mies and Mrs. Joseph Dawson, of New Castle, Pa., have returned from Jacksonville, Fla., where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. William J. Koenig and William, Jr. Mrs. Koenig and her son accompanied them to Decatur, and will spend the next two weeks with the Mies family. Miss Gaynel Lankenau left last week for Greely, Colo., where she is enrolled as a junior at Colorado State College, as a music major. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lankenau. Ivan Huser, of Hartford township. recently bought the 7?-acre Wesley Pontius farm in that township for $17,500, or $250 an acre. Bluffton has asked the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company to submit proposed power-purchase contract to that city for consideration. Bluffton also increased the pay for the first hour at a fire for firemen from $2 to $3. Fifteen months of that time was spent in Formosa. Commissioners To Meet Here Tuesday County commissioners from 18 northern Indiana counties will meet in Decatur Tuesday, at 6:30 p. m. CST at the Decatur Youth and Community Center for their annual district meeting. The meeting will feature a panel discussion of various problems of county commissioner boards. Entertainment is also planned. Among those attending from Adams county will be Harley J. Reef, Rolland Miller and Mrs. Mary Kintz, county commissioners: Herman Moellering, county surveyor; Ed Jaberg, county auditor; David Macklin, county attorney, and Lawrence Noll, superintendent of the county highway department.

Sieling Is Named Life Underwriter Decatur Man Named As Insurance Agent Announcement was made Wednesday afternoon of the appointment of M. C. Sieling of Decatur as local life underwriter of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of America. The appointment was announced by Richard M. Vanderwall, district manager for the company, who stated that it was effective immediately. Sieling has been a resident of Decatur for about four years, during which time he has managed his own construction company. He has been active in civic affairs and is currently president of the Decatur Lions club. He is a member of the Zion Lutheran church. He is also affiliated with jhe national guard, serving as captain in charge of personnel affairs in the 3rd Bn., 293rd Inf. Reg., 38th Div. which is stationed at the Fort Wayne armory. Sieling is married and has four children. The family resides at 768 Parkview Drive.
