Savings Bond Sales Decrease In County Indiana’s U. S. savings bands sales for August reached within a few percentage points of the totals for a year ago, according to a report made to T. F. Graliker, chairman of the county U.S. savings bonds committee. The total of August sales was $13,433,000 compared with $13,809,919 for the ’’like period of 1956 —a drop of only 2.6 per cent. Indiana’s savings bonds sales have gradually been creeping up on last year’s totals. I Adams county’s August Bond sales were $67,132.83 compared with $92,647.70 for August of last year. Forty-five of Indiana’s 92 counties recorded sales gains for the month over a year ago. SUPERINTENDENT (Continued from Page One) this sort of work. “This presents you with a challenge,” Brown said, “the challenge to study harder, longer and more carefully to become responsible, productive and mature members of our communities. The first step is to stay in high school all the way through — to stick with the job and do your best.” Brown pointed out that by 1960 there will be 210 atomic reactor operators needed, but that this -would increase to 18,670 by 1980. By 1956 the country will need 45,000 more doctors, 75,000 more college trained nurses, 485,000 more elementary and high school teachers, 120,000 moie college professors, 80.000 more natural scientists, and 100,000 more engineers. “You are the people who will fill these jobs,” he added. “You are your country’s greatest resource if you develop your ability. Let us not suffer the fate of the Indians, who perished because of inferior weapons and inferior knowhow.” SOVIET (Continued from Page One) an area close to the frontiers of the Soviet Union—is being turned into a permanent hotbed of military conflicts. Their organizers should recognize that the Soviet Union cannot watch impassively over a situation which bears on its own security. "We can only express our gratification about the good relations that have developed between the US S R, and the Arab countries ” Syria, Gromyko said, has been chosen “to be the object of imperialist aggression.” “Rude political an(i economic pressure fs fieflfjf’ existed her, plots are being concocted against her government and lately she is being more and more frequently threatened with open military intervention. “...If any ''further proof were i needed that the Eisenhower-Dulles Idoclfme is completely hostile to the interest of the people of the ■ Near East, then the American acItion in regard to Syria provides that proof.” NATIONWIDE (ContiiuJ<-• d_f ruin Page One) hourly “package” cost at 13.2 cents. cpuld have announced it * long time ago. The Army was reported to have fired a three stage Jupiter-C missile last November from the test center at Cape Canaveral, Fla., that traveled about 3,600 miles over the Atlantic. Although reports about this firing circulated widely, the Defense Department, until now, never officially confirmed itIn the first advance copies of Holaday s speech given to newsmen earlier, he said “We have sent ballistic missiles thousands of miles.” The Defense Department later corrected the sentence to read "a test ballistic missile.” —■ 1 " i trade m a good town — Decatur

Hindman said the board "should be encouraged rather than discouraged, complimented rather than criticized, and lifted up rather than beat down." On embezzlement, the report said: "The board does not permit it, nor can it prevent it if an officer or employe is intent upon stealing.” McKinney Recalls Shortage Frank McKinney, committee member and former Democratic national chairman, recalled a shortage in his office when he was Marion County treasurer, “To my knowledge the same procedure is in effect as it was 22 years ago," McKinney said. Handley said the group would operate permanently, with funds from his contingency fund, to find “any flaws” in current methods and suggest action “to tighten the strings and pull in the loose ends.” The group planned to set up offices at Indiana University and in an Indianapolis office building. D. Lyle Dieterle, chairman of the IU accounting department, was named a staff member. Handley interceded for newsmen to make the board’s ' report available for inspection as the group went into closed session. Hindman said he felt the report should be seen by the <smUPittee, ’first.
