Baby Is Born To Mother Aged Nine Doctor Says Child si Youngest Recorded LItTLE ROCK. Ark. - IW — A 9-year-old mother rested quietly today, but her 2M>-pound boy struggled for his life in an incubator. The child was born about a month and a half prematurely, officials at University of Arkansas Medical Center said Wednesday; Dr. Eva Dodge, who delivered the baby, said the child's Negro mother was verified through a birth certificate to have been born in another state in March 1948. Dr. Willis E. Brown, head of the center’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said the mother is the youngest on his department’s records, nosing out by two years an 11-year-old girl who

gave birth to a baby in the h«pital about three weeks ago. Hospital officials refused to reveal further details. They would not give the girl’s name, home town or whether she was married. William W. The 9-year-old mother was reported in good condition today. Muncipal Court MADISON. Wis. — (» — Wisconsin now has 549 municipalities, according to the office of the Secretary of State. Kefauver Attacks Steel Price Jump Claims Proces Higher New Wages Warrant WASHINGTON (UP)—Sen. Estes Kefauver today attacked US. Steel Corp, for hiking its steel price $6 a ton with the knowledge that its “so - called competitors” would follow the .lead. Kefauver said 'concentration of control in the steel industry is increasing. The Tennessee Democrat, chairman- of the Senate Antritrust and Monopoly subcommittee, told the Senate in a prepared speech that “he whole matter of costs and prices requires further investigation.” This committee has been looking into the steel price hike for several weeks. Kefauver accused US. Steel of refusing to give the subcommittee 1 a breakdown of its cost figures despite a promise that the figures of no single steel firm would be disclosed. However, he said, “it is obvious” that there is a substantial gap” between the company’s July $6 a ton price increase and the amount by which its wage costs increased. The gap ranges from $2.75 to $3.50 per ton, he said. Kefauver said the record shows that US. Steel and at least one other major steel producer quoted prices to a government purchasing agency which were “precisely identical.” The central fact concerning competition in the industry, he said, is that "rnhen U. S. steel raises its price, it does so with the almost certain knowledge, based on years of experience, that its so-called competitors will make the same increase.” Non-Voting Mother SIOUX FALLS, S. Today's Sport Parade (Reg. U.S- Pat. Off.) By OSCAR FRALEY United Press Sports Writer RIO DE JANEIRO (UP) — I’m on my way today toward becoming a South American legend along the lines of Pittsburgh Phil and the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo. I went to the races and broke even. This, in itself, can be classed as one of the leading upsets of the year. And, while it may be gilding the lily a bit, such a magnificent performance at the mutuel windows should, even if it isn’t, be the talk of the Jockey Club of Brazil. So today I’ll let you in on the two-part secret of how to “beat” the races in Rio so that you, too, can break even if it so happens that you, too. need the money. The Double Prerequisites First of all, for the only time in history, I couldn’t understand the touts. They speak only Portuguese. Mine is not only very limited but actually non - existent. Secondly, you have to be as homesick as a Carolina coon dog in a Manhattan apartment house. The way this second part works out is this. In practically every race all of the horses but one have a Spanish or Portuguese handle such as, let’s say. Gastronome. You know, to begin with, that a horse with indigestion isn’t going to be too tough to beat. Then, to , for the benefit of he homesick plunge r, each race seems to have one animal with an English name. That’s the one on which you bet. In the first race it was a nag called Mischief, which may mean something else in Portuguese but which boyhood memories told me was a fine steed, indeed. So with the sporty nonchalance of a Texan in a five and 10 cent store, I tossed down 100 cruzeiros. I felt like a big spender but some remnant of honesty forces me to admit that 100 cruzeiros is roughly $1.30. Still, I felt like a big gambler. Really. 20-Length Victory I watched with superior calm as Mischief won by 20 lengths. Why I even stopped yelling at the jockey to "belt him again” when he was two or three feet from the wire. You could hear me over the race caller, who sounds like a tobacco auctioneer at a hog calling contest. Never in the history of the Jockey Club of Brazil, which is Belmont Park surrounded by mountains, have they had so much i

action for $l3O. Needless to say. to anyone who knows Old Fearless, I didn’t sweep the card or I might have done even better than break even. I hit on something named Oh, Johnny, and that got me off the hook for the rest of an up and down afternoon. ■>.—_—_ TB Deaths Show Huge Decline Through Britain LONDON (UP) — Some 6,492 persons died of tuberculosis in Britain in 1955. less than onefourth the toll of the last pre-war . year, the General Register Office announced Wednesday night.
