THE DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT, DECATUR, INDIANA
Showers Rule Over Most Os Indiana Rain Is Welcomed By Farmers Os State By UNITED f4EBB Showers pelted most sections of Indiana today and the weatherman said rain would continue through Thursday. The precipitation was welcomed by farmers who reported moisture deficiencies as early as last week —but put a temporary damper on the Indiana State Fair's openingday program. The Indianapolis Weather Bureau reported the following precipitation measurements by midmorning: Kinghtstown and Montezuma 1:38 inches. Danville 1.25, Indianapolis 1.17, Terre Haute 1.15, Noblesville 1.0, Columbus 1.01, Shelbyville .81, Eminence .80, Rushville .76, Greencastle .68, Martinsville .51, Covington .50. Afternoon temperatures from the 70s to about 80 were on deck, followed by overnight lows in the 160 s. The high Thursday will range from 72 north to 84 south. The five-day outlook Thursday through Labor Day, meanwhile, called for temperatures averaging 2-5 degrees below normal north to about normal in the south portion. Normal highs are 77-82 north to 82-86 south, normal lows 58 north to 68 south. The forecast called for mostly cool north and warmer downstate until the start of a warming trend Sunday and Monday. Factory Slowdowns Cause Claims To Raise. ’ . r . , , Although two-thirds of the Employment Security Division's 30 offices reported declined in unemployment insurance claims last week, the state-wide total increased slightly, mainly because of inventory and model change periods in several automobive and supplier plants. William C. Stalnaker, Division director, said areas most affected were Bedford. Evansville, and South Bend. Altogether, the agency received a total of 32.806 claims, 322 more than during the preceding week. The number from newly-unemployed persons was up by nearly 500 from the week before to a 5,521 Jigure last week. Boy Shot While In Swimming Near Uncle's GREENCASTLE (UP> — A. nine-year-old Indianapolis boy was in fair condition today while authorities investigated who shot him as he swam in a creek on his uncle's farm near Reelsville.
