Best guess on the coming weather is for warmer, but very little rain, if any. For living, the temperatures have been just about right. Crops, probably could stand - it a little warmer and perhaps not quite so dry. O O l— Some forty people of the Decatur area are enjoying a three day trip to New York on the Erie Railroad excursion special. They will return Monday afternoon after a whirlwind visit of many paints of interest O O Painters of this area report a heavy fall schedule for both inside and outside house painting. They point out that the bugs have disappeared and that autumn is an ideal time for an outside painting job. —iO Oi— Congratulations to Herman Franz, for winning a place in the state plowing match scheduled for Adams county next week. Mr. Franz is the first Adams county man to win such a distinction and everyone in this area is wishing him well in the state finals. O 0 School bells will ring through- — out the county next Monday morning, followed in a week by Decatur schools. Many of the rural schools have fall track and baseball schedules which extend generally over the normal football season in larger schools. Time flies. 0 0 While many folks lock their summer homes on Labor Day for the season, others make numerous visits to the various inland lakes to enjoy late summer fishing and also to watch nature’s great autumn colorama, which unfolds each year. It’s a wonderful time to be at the lake according to those who visit the Hoosier waters.

Gov. Handley, we fear, is permitting politics to enter into the highway land scandal investigation. Vice raids in Lake county without clearing the actions with officials of that county also have been instituted. It doesn’t appear that we have any better state government than we have had in the past. There is only one way to solve this and that is with a complete change at the next general election. O O Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Klepper have become the third to donate sufficient money to furnish one of the new rooms at Adams county Memorial hospital. Indications are that all of these rooms will be furnished by citizens of the area without a cent of tax money. Mr. and Mrs. Klepper are to be congratulated on their interest in the local institution. O O Wholesale price index has shown a slight decrease compared with prices of a week ago and also of a year ago, which is the first sign that perhaps soon we could have lower retail prices in some food lines. Prices on all foods have been sky-rocketing for almost a year, and it’s been a tremendous task for the housewife to provide the necessary supplements for three meals a day. O—O It’s rather sickening to see Congress trade parts of the foreign expenditures bill for parts of Civil Rights legislation. That can’t be the way our founding Fathers planned the functioning of our nation. Both major political parties need a lot of revamping as far as leadership is concerned. Let’s hope that in the very neat' future this reorganization will be brought about by the decent members of our National Assembly.
