Indiana's Toll Highway Is In Federal System Entire Stretch Os Indiana Turnpike In Federal System INDIANA’S TOLL WASHINGTON (UP)—The government'today brought 2,100 miles of toll superhighways in 15 states into the federal interstate highway system. Congress now must decide whether the federal government should buy the roads and make them - toll-free or let the states maintain them and continue to collect tolls. The federal government is barred from maintaining toll highways. The action by the Bureau of Pubic roads was made on recommendations of the various state highway commissions. It brought parts of such famous superhighways as the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the New York Thruway into the 41,000-mile defense-linked federal highway system. Some Were Omitted There were some notable omissions. The West Virginia Turnpike was left out altogether. So was I the northeast extension of the { Pennsylvania Turnpike and most j of the New Jersey Turnpike. The bureau said these famous toll roads were omitted because they "did not lie along general location lines of the interstate system.” New Jersey's Garden State Parkway was omitted because it bars trucks. The bureau must tell Congress' by next January how much it would cost to buy the roads. Congress then will decide whether to purchase them. The bureau said it could give no preliminary estimate on the total cost. Federal Highway Administrator Bertram D. Tallamy said the toll roads brought into the system represent about 5 per cent of the coast-to-coast network that will link 90 per cent of all cities of 50,000 or -more population. The government pays 90 per cent of the cost of the system which will total around 30 billion dollars., List of Roads Here are the toll roads, or sections of them, brought into the federal program: Florida: Sunshine State Parkway, 41 miles from Fort Pierce to Palm Beach. Illinois-. 4T miles of the North Illinois Turnpike from south of Barrington to near Beloit, and 73 miles of the Tri-State Turnpike from Calumet Expressway to Wisconsin line, including spur from Deerfield to Edens Expressway. Indiana Turnpike: Entire 151mile route. Kansas Turnpike: 184 miles from Kansas City to Oklahoma line, except Topeka-Emporia section. Kentucky Turnpike: entire 40mile route. Ohio Turnpike: 173 miles from ; Pennsylvani aline to Indiana line • except Cleveland-Youngstown section. Oklahoma: Turner Turnpike, entire 177-mile route. Pennsylvania Turnpike. 359 miles from Ohio line to Bristol, except short section at eastern end and northeast extepsion. Virginia: ichmond - Petersburg toll road, entire 35-mile route. Attend 4-H Camp As Association Guests Among some recent 4-H award | trip selections by the 4-H club council were three to attend 4-H club camp which was held August 11 to 14 at Camp McClure in Kosciusko County. The award winners were Larry Foreman. Patty Johnson and David Beer. The trip is sponsored by the Adams county artifical breeders association.

Dystrophy Chapter To Meet Saturday Imogene Pritchard, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Bluffton, will be the principal speaker at a meeting of the greater Fort Wayne chapter of Muscular Dystrophy associations of America, Inc., at the Sears Pavilion. Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne, Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Miss Pritchard will address the meeting, which is open to the public on physical therapy. Mrs. Dorothy S. Axsom, executive secretary from Indianapolis, is expected to be at the meeting. Adams county is included in the area of the greater Fort Wayne chapter, which includes northeastern Indiana.
