Cool Weather Only Temporary In Slate Mercury Dips To 50s Early Today By UNITED PRESS Temperatures fell into the 50s today as a cool front spread over Indiana. A new warm-up was due to start almost immediately, however. The mercury dipped to 54 at Goshen and Fort Wayne * and 57 at South Bend as the Canadian fresh air swirled across Hoosierland in the wake of a hot and humid day. Temperatures climbed to 87 at Indianapolis and 93 at Evansville Monday before dropping 25 degrees during the night. Top readings ranging from. 80 in the north to near 90 in the south were expected this afternoon, but low relative humidity was expected to keep the weather pleasant. Lows tonight will range from near 60 upstate to the upper 60s downstate. Then the mercury will climb to highs ranging from 85 to 91 Wednesday, with the outlook for Thursday even warmer. Isolated thundershowers, similar to those which have dotted the countryside daily since last Friday, were due to continue today in the south and throughout the state Wednesday. Scattered thundershowers were expected again Thursday. Rainfall during the 24 hours ending at 7 a m. today included 1.90 at Scottsburg, 1.20 at Greencastle, .85 at Shoals, .49 at West Baden, .42 at Terre Haute, .11 at Evansville and a trace at Indianapolis. 5,000 POLES (Coatlnued from Page One) hungry. The transport workers walked out Monday morning demanding a 50 per cent pay increase and the same 40-hour week. They now get a basic average of 800 zlotys a month —about enough to buy a medium-priced pair of shoes. HUGE ARMS CACHE (Continued from Pate One) Wyatt said neither of the men arrested would admit knowing about the arms or what they were to be used for. The highway patrol said the alert it received on the Latins said they left Washington Aug. 10-dfiv-ing a sedan pulling a trailer. The dispatch said there were five men in the car, but Wyatt said he had no information about where the other three were or their identities. Miami long has been a center of Cuban arms shipment intrigues. Two years ago, former Cuban President Carlos Prio Socarras was arrested in connection with an arms plot and was fined in Federal Court in New York. Prio. who lives in exile at Miami Beach, has continually denied he is the outside leader of attempts to throw’ Batista out of office. Batista overthrew Prio’s regime in a bloodless coup.
